So you got to know Nicole Chapman on the site, and now you’re starting to see why we like her style! As the creative director of Simply Catering, Nicole is constantly inspired by her clients (love that!). Do you have a family recipe you’re hoping to include on your special day? Done and done. Read more from Nicole below!
Describe your design aesthetic.
We customize each event based on the client’s aesthetic, but we truly love playing up southern cuisine in fancy, modern vessels.
Where do you find inspiration?
A lot of my inspiration comes from my clients. They encourage me to try new things and I love it. Also, as an Anthropology major in college, I adore learning about new cultures and how different groups of people celebrate weddings. I also love nothing more than to incorporate a client’s family recipe into their menu. It’s the little special details that inspire me.
Who do you follow/who inspires you?
Personally, my family inspires me. We are a small business and I am proud to say we push each other. It takes a village to execute all of the steps of running a business and without them; we would never be where we are today. Professionally, I adore Chef Eric LeVine. After meeting him at CaterSource in Las Vegas last year, reading his book, and following him on Instagram, I have grown to love how humble and talented he is. He believes in using familiar ingredients in unconventional ways, something I believe in as well!
How did you get started in the business?
My mother started this business when I was a baby in the late 1980’s. I have watched her work in the event industry my entire life. So, naturally, I wanted to do something different! However, after being a makeup artist for 7 years, I decided that my heart was in my family’s business. I took my sales skills and my creativity and completely rebranded our company in 2010.
Do you have a work mantra?
“We Can Do That!” My mother always taught me that my only limitation was myself.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
To be true to yourself and your company. You can never please everyone, but you can be a perfect fit for someone and it is that someone who gives your work purpose.
What are your goals for 2015?
To work smarter and not harder and to create new relationships with wedding professionals and to maintain and solidify my existing ones.
