Laura knew from the moment she started planning her wedding to Brennan that it would be exceptionally elegant. All Savannah weddings are, of course. Little tokens of iconic Savannah culture were sprinkled throughout the day, from a hot praline stand at the reception, to the old-world trolley that took Laura and her bridesmaids to the ceremony downtown. Though, no moment was quite like the one when Laura took her first step down the aisle of the sprawling, historic Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The bride and groom both knew at that precious moment that nothing would ever be the same again. Laura wore a simple, yet timeless white gown, attended by her bridesmaids in one-shoulder green gowns. The food at the reception was a sensation all its own. With unique offerings such as a grilled cheese station and a chocolate grooms cake with bourbon pecan glaze, guests were talking about the meal for weeks to come. The reception continued with tunes by The Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love that kept the dance floor packed. Memories of their perfect day held close, the newlyweds took off into the sunset for an eight day honeymoon in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Tell us how you met. Was it love at first sight, blind date, friends forever?
We were set up by my aunt who volunteered at Benedictine Military School where the groom teaches. I was in nursing school at the time and didn’t have much free time but agreed to meet this “guy” my aunt just knew I would like. After many weeks of not meeting we finally met and the rest is history!
Tell us about your wedding gown and what your wedding party wore.
My wedding gown was something that I know I will look back in 50 years and still love. It was simple , elegant and timeless. It fit perfectly as if it was specifically for me! The bridesmaids wore a beautiful green one shoulder dress that looked great on everyone! The flower girls wore Pieces by Tam dresses that I just loved. They were sweet and delicate!
What was the most memorable moment?
Walking down the aisle and seeing each other and realizing that our future was beginning. The emotion was so real and pure and nothing can ever explain that feeling of seeing the one you love at the end of the aisle waiting for you and only you.
Was there a specific theme or style?
We knew we wanted something elegant but not too elegant. I am not a big decision maker, but Sebrell Smith, my wedding planner, helped me narrow in on the things I really liked and help create a vision. One that could not have been more perfect!
Tell us about the food and desserts.
AMAZING! That is all I have to say! I can’t say enough good things. Sally is incredible and her cakes are out of this world. We LOVED both cakes! The wedding cake was almond cake with each tier a different flavor alternating lemon and raspberry with a butter cream icing. The grooms cake was chocolate with a bourbon pecan glaze. They were both to die for! We had several different food stations and all were a hit! Most wouldn’t think to have a grilled cheese station at a wedding reception but I must say it was delicious! Who doesn’t like a grilled cheese?!
What were your playful twists that made the event unique?
I worked at River Street Sweets as my first job as well as my two older brothers who were the “praline guys” at weddings. I always told my parents that when I got married I wanted a hot praline stand at my reception! Also, the groom’s cake was a surprise for the groom! His father passed away right before we were engaged and had given him his old mustang. A replica of the car was created for the groom’s cake. Brennan picked the flavors that he wanted the cake to have and the rest was a surprise! I wanted him to feel his dad’s presence and I did this by having memorable details throughout the ceremony and reception.
What was the best wedding advice you received?
Hire a wedding planner! It is so worth it not to be worried with details and just enjoy every aspect of your wedding day!
If there was one thing you could change, what would it be?
NOT one thing! It was perfect.
