Not being a girly girl, one would think I hate weddings. In fact, that couldn’t be further from the truth. I love seeing how other people envision their big day and how they always have that special touch they like to add to make their day the very best of their entire lives. It isn’t always about the flowers, food or even the dress (don’t kill me), but it is about that look that two people share when they are committing their lives to one another. When you have that look nothing else matters but the two of you and when you can see it shine through in the decor, the food and the dress. And in the case of Alnaldo and Maria, that look makes you feel their love. See their story jump off the page with photos by a wedding photographer in Naples, Maria Angela Photography.
Tell us how you met…
Alnaldo and I met through a mutual friend we had at the time, in our senior year of Highschool. I attended Flushing High school and he went to Bayside High. One day after school we were both over our friend’s house and were introduced. There were no sparks at first. Mostly do to the fact that he had a girlfriend and at that time I had a boyfriend. About a year and a half after highschool we were both single. One day I was out with my girls, I pointed out a tall guy ahead of us. I had no clue it was Alnaldo, I was only able to see the back of him. It just happened to be that the tall guy, his friends, my girlfriends and I all walked in the same store to shop. As soon as we walked in Alnaldo’s brother David said hi to my girls and I. We had all gone to Flushing High together. That’s when I realized that the tall guy I pointed at was Alnaldo. Alnaldo and I said hi to each other, small talk but then we all went our separate ways. Couple days later my girlfriend, Michele asked what I thought about Alnaldo and I told her I thought he was handsome and seemed like a nice guy followed by, why? Michele informed me Alnaldo wanted to get to know me more and asked me, if Alnaldo were to ask for my number would I give it to him? I told Michele, yes. Couple weeks later we all met somewhere. Alnaldo, his friends, Michele, our girlfriend Vee and I. We were just hanging out talking, laughing, having a good time. The whole time I was thinking, I wonder when/if Alnaldo was going to ask for my number today. We wrapped it up, both parties ready to leave, getting in our cars. At this point of course I was thinking ok I guess he had seconds thoughts to ask for my number. As soon as I was stepping inside the car feeling a bit disappointed, I hear Alnaldo call my name. He came over, finally asked for my number and the rest is history.
Can you give us an overview of the event?
The ceremony started at 2:30pm at St. Agnes Church. Once the ceremony was done, the wedding party and us drove to 5th ave Downtown Naples for photos with Maria-Angela. From there it was over to Kensington Golf & Country Club for some more photos. Cocktail hour began at 6pm and finally the reception started at 7pm.
Was there a specific theme or style?
It was a summer wedding so we wanted to keep it light in color using pastels. Mint green, peaches, yellow with an accent of silver.
What were your playful twists that made the event unique?
The wedding party had fun with the entrance as they were being announced and introduced. We had plan the garder/bouquet toss to be the foundation of a proposal for the brides brother. He had purposely caught the Garder and his girlfriend of 8 years caught the bouquet. Once the traditional event was done, Justin Timberlake “Mirrors” played as he asked for her hand in marriage. The groom’s sisters both decided to sing “from this moment” as a finisher.
Did you DIY any of the details?
The favors and our sister-in-law to be (Mildred) did all the save the date, programs, and thank you cards as well as take pre-wedding photos.
Tell us about your wedding gown and what your bridal party wore.
The wedding gown was a Demetrios classic style gown. It was ivory, originally an A-line but altered to have more of a mermaid style. The Bridesmades wore strapless sweetheart peach dresses and the Made-of-honer’s wore a peach as well with straps. The groom wore a Charcoal Morning Tux with a Ivory shirt, Silver/black Ascot, Silver vest and black flat front pants. The groomsmen wore Vera Wang Charcoal tux with white shirts and black bow tie.
What was the most memorable moment?
The announcement of husband and wife as well as the 1st dance.
Tell us about the food and desserts.
During cocktail hour they served hot hors d’oeuvres. The salad had walnuts and a sweet raspberry dressing. The main dish was a mix of Steak, Chicken and stuffed shrimps potato and greens. Amazing! The dessert was 3 different flavored cakes, one raspberry, one key-lime and our favorite being caramel. We finished the night with pizzas and sliders to sober our guests up. The signature drink was called “The Maraldo”.
What kind of energy did your entertainment give the guests?
DJ Gill was great. He was an amazing MC and got the guest to really dance.
What was the best wedding advice you received?
Enjoy the moment since the day goes by in a flash.
