A sophisticated summer night on the lake was the concept behind Paige and Todd’s August wedding, and thanks to the beautiful backdrop of Crystal Falls Lake, accented with whimsical modern décor, they achieved exactly that. Eighty-five family members and close friends gathered for a heartfelt lakeside ceremony that united these college sweethearts in marriage, and then celebrated with a joyful cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing. The bride wore a romantic fit-and-flare gown that had a touch of sparkle, by Winnie Couture. Her bridesmaids were dressed in dusty rose-colored J. Crew dresses—the perfect complement to bright yellow billy ball bouquets, and the groom and groomsmen looked dashing in their gray suits. To keep the night light-hearted and fun for all, Paige offered good old-fashioned coke floats with yellow-and-white striped paper straws, and a photo stand for guests to pose with paper lips, mustaches and other props for fun. As the grand finale to a beautiful night, everyone released paper wish lanterns out over the lake. After the wedding, Paige and Todd returned to Telluride, Colorado, where he’d proposed a year earlier. Images by Atlanta wedding photographer, Scobey Photography.
Paige found lots of inspiration in the sunny yellow billy balls, or craspedia, that she chose as her signature flower. She describes them as “an understated take on modern contemporary, without being too bold or serious,” which is exactly what she aimed for with the overall wedding design. She paired the billy balls with succulents and a crisp chevron stripe to round out her fun, modern style.
Paige and Todd were married at Crystal Falls in Dawsonville, Georgia, on the beautiful Crystal Falls Lake. The ceremony took place at sunset on the lawn overlooking the lake, while the reception was held both indoors and on the terrace. Even though humidity and hurricanes threatened the east coast that month, the weather on Paige and Todd’s special day was perfect for a summer nights-themed wedding.
Paige put lots of love into the details—she designed and created many of them herself, including the invitation suite, program fans, dinner menus, and table numbers. Thanks to a tripod and automatic timer, she was even able to incorporate a silhouette shot of Todd proposing as a stamp on the invitations and favor tags. As favors, Paige and Todd gave away an assortment of succulents planted in mini silver watering cans that complemented the succulents used on the tables.
To create a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere at the reception, the bride and groom requested that their DJ, Ryan Aquilino, play instrumental versions of the best Nat King Cole hits, as well as other classic wedding songs and slow songs. Since most of the guests consisted of couples, everyone enjoyed slow dancing on the terrace, lit by paper lanterns and twinkly lights.
