I can only describe today’s real event as a big bowl of wedding Wheaties! Among the lists of wow-factor details from the celebration at The Foundry at Puritan Mill are: the chandeliers dripping in pink roses, the vibrant avocado and fuchsia stationery, monogrammed ring bearing pillows…you get the point. Get comfortable in that chair, because there is even more to love in the gallery. Their wedding venue was the stunning The Foundry at Puritan Mill in Atlanta, GA. Can you give us an overview of the event? We wanted to get married after I graduated with my Master’s and before I started classes for my next degree. So May it was. It was the perfect day! 🙂 It was warm and sunny, but not too hot. We got married in the church where Jon and I are members. We love the pastor, congregation and building (Jon is an architect, so he notices those types of things). It was the perfect size church. Our guests fit in the pews perfectly and it felt like a cozy, intimate service. The church is gorgeous on it’s own, so we decided to have simple decorations inside. Steve Bales, from Bold American, did an amazing job! All of the candles were the fabulous and set the mood perfectly. I can’t even begin to describe how perfect the reception was. The reception site was a point of contention between Jon and me. We just couldn’t agree on a place to have the reception. But once we saw Puritan Mill, we knew it was the perfect spot! Jon loved it because of all the natural light. I loved it because it was big enough for all of our guests and I knew Steve could work his magic and make the space beautiful. It really was perfect! From the decorations, to the food, to the DJ… it all came together wonderfully. We still get compliments on how fun and beautiful our wedding was!
Was there a specific theme or style? My husband, Jon, thought of the theme. We went for an Urban Outfitters/Anthropologie look. For my part, I just wanted a lot of vibrant colors.
What inspired the theme or style? Jon wanted an urban, yet decorative and ornamental look to the reception.
What were your playful twists that made your event unique? My favorite “twist” is how I surprised Jon with the chandeliers at the reception. One of his first ideas was to have antique chandeliers above the dance floor. But throughout the planning process we decided that it was too expensive. However, my parents were able to come up with the money and Steve “maybe” threw in a few for a discounted price for us! Jon didn’t know about it until we had our sneak peak of the reception area before any guests were allowed in. Another fun twist was the little “chat” we had before we walked down the aisle. The girls and I were walking around the church to the front from where we had gotten ready. Jon’s room had a door to the outside and someone just happened to walk out as we were going by. Jon and I didn’t see each other, but we were able to take a quick picture on either side of the door and we got to say hello right before the ceremony started.
Did you DIY any of the details? We put together our own guest welcome bags. We had fun little “Georgia” things in green bags with pink tissue paper and pink ribbons. We had Georgia Pecans, peach jelly beans, cookies and two cokes.
What was the most memorable moment? There are so many! For me, I think it was the ceremony. It honestly felt as if no one else was there. I can remember walking out of the church hand in hand with Jon and looking at him and saying, “We’re married!” Jon’s most memorable moment was seeing me walk down the aisle.
Tell us about the food and drinks: AMAZING! Again, Bold American did an amazing job! All of the food was incredible, but I think people talked about the shrimp and grits the most. Jon really enjoyed the tomato, basil, mozzarella skewers. Steve put together the most amazing cheese table! It was a complete surprise to us and it was just gorgeous! We loved our cake and the little desserts that were passed out towards the end of the evening.
What kind of energy did your entertainment give? Our DJ was incredible! He was very professional and led the event well. I think our wedding planner had a big part with the order of the reception, but Eric did a wonderful job! He really kept the party going once we got started. Jon and I stayed on the dance floor the majority of the evening!
If there was one thing you could change, what would it be? I would have had a longer reception. It was four hours, but I think the toasts and eating took a little longer than I would have liked. I would have enjoyed one more hour of dancing!
What were the honeymoon plans? We went to Costa Rica for a week. We rented a car and traveled to different cities. It was perfect! We had just the right amount of relaxation and adventure.
