When Amanda and CJ were married on a May evening last year at the lakeside Pointes West Army Resort in Appling, GA, it was the epitome of southern elegance, cowgirl boots and all. Amanda will never forget the love on CJ’s face as he watched her walk toward him down the petal-dusted aisle, a rush of pure excitement for both of them. Their closest friends and family looked on as the two vowed their love to one another beneath an arbor of cascading flowers. The reception followed with gourmet southern fare by Gordon’s Conference and Catering Center and an open bar with beer and wine to suit every pallet. The cake boasted a coral B atop artfully sculpted white icing. Amanda and CJ enjoyed their first dance to “Me and You” by Kenny Chesney before everyone danced the night away to the tunes of a local radio station DJs. The night drew to a close with the newlyweds whisked away to their dream honeymoon in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Photos by national wedding photographer (Once Like a Spark) Photography!
Tell us how you met. Was it love at first sight, blind date, friends forever?
We met through mutual friends when we were younger. One day he sent me a private Facebook message asking for my number and I gave it to him! Our first date was on the Broad River. On a beautiful summer day, a group of my friends went kayaking in Athens, GA and we fell in love immediately! We have been inseparable ever since!
Now for the proposal…details!
On March 11th, 2012, CJ took me downtown Augusta to Riverwatch to enjoy a beautiful sunny day. We brought along a bag of bread to feed the ducks while we strolled along the river hand in hand. I noticed he seemed a little nervous, but I just brushed if off. While we stopped to feed the ducks at one particular spot, he bent down and said something just bit him! I laughed and continued to feed the ducks! He cleared his throat, and I finally looked at him and he was on one knee with my engagement ring in his hand! I immediately grabbed him and hugged him and said yes! I heard a clicking noise from a distance and turned to see where it was coming from. Our families jumped out from behind the bushes yelling “Congrats” and ran towards us! It was one of the best days of my life!
Tell us about your wedding gown and what the wedding party wore.
My wedding gown was made my Casablanca. It was a stunning ivory and lace gown that had a sweetheart neckline, was strapless, and had a low-cut back. Intricate Swarovski crystals covered the dazzling dress. I wore Dan Post dark brown and ivory cowboy boots that looked amazing with my dress! The bridesmaids wore Bari Jay coral dresses. They were knee length, one-shoulder with flowers on the strap, and had a sweetheart neckline. My girls wore dark brown cowboy boots to complete their look! My husband wore a light gray tux with an ivory vest and tie to match my dress! The groomsmen wore a light gray tux with a coral vest and tie to match the bridesmaids. The ring bearer and junior groomsmen wore a light gray tux as well, but had a coral bow tie to finish off their adorable look! My flower girl had an ivory dress with coral accents, and she looked adorable while being pulled in a wagon down the aisle!
What was the most memorable moment?
The most memorable moment was when I saw my husband for the first time as I was walking down the aisle. His expression was priceless and was filled with love and emotion! I couldn’t wait to marry the man of my dreams and start our life together!
Was there a specific theme or style?
We had a “country-elegance” style. Our cowboy boots were one of my favorite accessories that my girls and I wore!
Did you DIY any of the details?
I had so much fun with DIY projects for our wedding! The majority of our décor was DIY. For example, we made signs that displayed our wine and beer list that we made. We bought silver trays and spray painted black chalk spray on them. We wrote sayings on each tray with chalk, and they turned out so cute!
Tell us about the food and desserts.
The food was catered by Gordon’s Conference and Catering Center for our wedding. We had a huge display of southern style food, which was delicious! Silver Palms Catering catered our rehearsal dinner. We also had an open bar with a number of beer and wine choices. Our wedding cake was the most delectable cake I have ever tasted! Big Day Cakes (Erin) made our cake. It was 4-tiered with coral accents with a letter “B” as the topper. The fondant was white-chocolate flavored.
If there was one thing you could change, what would it be?
I would not change a thing! Our wedding day was perfect to us, and we couldn’t be happier! We were not concerned with the rainy weather because we knew at the end of the day, we were going to be married to the love of our lives rain or shine!
