It’s a new year and a new wedding season! We’re going to fill you in on the inside scoop of the in’s and out’s of the 2016 season. Want to know if your wedding will be trending? Read on.
- Out with the Rustic and Vintage, In with the Clean Slate
Gone are the days where your venue chooses the direction of your wedding. With more venues popping up that are blank slates, the modern bride can go in any direction she wants for colors, florals, and decor.
- Out with DIY, In with Quality Keepsakes
Quality paper is in, and DIY digital printing on thin paper is out. (Hasn’t it always been, though?) Your invitation should be a stunning keepsake, not something that’s thin and looks DIY. Brides are opting for more classic printing options, like thermography or letterpress. Foil is still in this year with more brides leaning towards rose gold and copper foil instead of the gold and silver we’ve been seeing.
- Out with Modest and Traditional, In with Sheer and Showy Gowns
Designers are becoming daring with their gowns. Bridal gowns are getting showy and sexy, while still reading as soft and romantic. Low v’s, sheer elements, and low backs are in – and I’m into it.
- Out with Buffet, In with Stations
More and more brides are opting for multiple stations. Stuck on the options that a buffet dinner provides? Add a satellite station with a small tasting plate to mix in some variety to the typical wedding buffet.
- Out with Rustic, In with Romantic and Organic
We’re seeing a more classic, romantic look with lots of greenery in 2016. Mercury glass is still a hit – although silver and gold aren’t being requested as much as copper mercury. The copper mercury adds a warmth that we love! It’s all about greenery this year. Even bridesmaids will be carrying simple bouquets of just greenery.
Mason jars and stumps are done, people. For the love of all things weddings, they are done!
- Out with Diamond Halo Rings, In with New Stones, Shapes, and Mixed Metals
For the last few years, every proposing human in America has purchased the same ring. It’s time to mix it up! What makes your style unique? Even wedding rings can be an accessory piece for your style. We’re seeing lots of interesting stone choices, shapes (marquis, pear, and emerald are back!) and mixed metals. Check out jewelry designer Anna Sheffield’s work.
- Out with Candy Bars and S’mores, In with Late Night Salty Snacks
Wedding receptions get longer as time goes on. Remember when your parents had a cake and punch reception? Brides and Grooms now are commonly extending their receptions to last 4.5 hours. Since guests are drinking far after dinner ends, they’ll be craving salty snacks at the end of the night. Ask your caterer about adding passed chicken biscuits or tacos – they’ll be a crowd pleaser for sure! Even though everybody loves s’mores, it’s been done folks. Onto the salty goodness!
- Out with Rounded, In with Wide and Organic
Brides and florists are steering away from rounded, traditional arrangements and leaning towards more natural “gathered from the garden” arrangements.
