A few years have gone by since Heather and Blake’s nuptials. They had a big wedding with an intimate feel full of family and friends they cherished. They incorporated their personalities in all of the details throughout the wedding. For her that meant a lot of pink and really girly. For him it meant country songs and camo! Their anniversary shoot with Heather Sanderson Photography was no different. Enjoy!
Tell us how you met…
Blake and I met the summer before we started college at Abilene Christian University. I knew his brother from Lubbock before I knew Blake and he had told me to make sure I kept my eye out for Blake when I got there. I found him pretty quickly and we became friends right away! He was SO SHY though but I didn’t mind because all I thought of him was as a friend. The more we hung out, the more I realized that this boy was not at all shy and that we loved being together. We would spend all of our time together and it became evident that there was more to this than just friendship and we very quickly starting dating. We dated the entire four years at ACU without ever breaking up. I knew he was different than anyone else I had ever dated and after my Sophomore year of college, I knew he would be the boy I would end up marrying!!
Now for the proposal… details!
Our proposal could not have been more perfect! My family and I, along with Blake, went to New York for vacation the summer before my senior year of college. At this point Blake and I had already been dating for 3 years and so marriage was something we talked about often for our future. The first day we got to New York, my family decided that we should all split up and do whatever we wanted to…explore the city. So of course Blake and I went on our own to explore by ourselves. Our first stop was lunch at an amazing Italian restaurant. We then we went shopping and ate some dessert. We were having so much fun just being alone and being together. Next, we decided to go on a horse carriage ride through Central Park. I didn’t think this was weird because we had talked about doing this for such a long time. It was so beautiful! Once the ride was over we walked through Central Park and just enjoyed the scenery. At one point we had climbed up to this rock and Blake had told me to turn around. I turned around and at this point I started to wonder and my heart started racing!! He told me to turn back around and when I did, I saw him down on one knee with the most perfect ring. He said the sweetest words to me and then asked me to marry him. We were so happy! Later, we ended up meeting all of my family for a dinner celebration and little did I know, I had one more surprise coming my way. As we were visiting, I felt two hands touch my shoulders and when I turned around his parents were standing there ready to give me a hug! They had flown up there to celebrate this special day with us!! After we finished eating and just when I thought the day could not get any better, my family surprised us with an engagement party back at the hotel with gifts and cake. The day was absolutely perfect and one that I will never forget!!
Can you give us an overview of the event?
This was an anniversary photo shoot that we wanted do since it had been a few years since our wedding.
What inspired the theme or style?
We wanted a casual look…nothing too fancy.
If there was one thing you could change, what would it be?
Nothing, the day was perfect and Heather was great at capturing who we are as a couple! We love to have fun, we love to laugh, and we love to be together. I think you can see all of those things through her work.
What was the best wedding advice you received?
To make your wedding your own and to show your personalities through it all. Also, to make it fun…..it only happens once, so make it memorable and have the best time.
