We sat down with the talented Shauna Altes, designer and co-founder of Arrangements Floral Studio, located in Daytona Beach, Fl. We’re putting a face to a name for you, and inviting you to get to know Shauna and the background behind her floral business. We adore how Arrangements takes on five clients a year with gifted flowers! Love it!
How long have you been in the event/wedding industry?
I actually grew up in the event industry – from the time I was 8 years old my family owned catering businesses. A large portion of our clients were brides and large corporate events. I started out in the kitchen helping to chop and do dishes and then moved onto the floor setting up for events and finally my largest role was Event Manager and Sales. I was the one booking the clients, choosing menus, organizing the events for the upcoming weekends.
Tell us a little about your personality and interests.
I am a very focused person, and absolutely a go-getter. I love to push the envelope and go one step further than the rest. Hanging out with my family and going on vacation is my all-time favorite thing to do. I play and write music and was actually in a band (a former life, haha). Of course I am obsessed with coffee, I go to bed dreaming about it and wake up SO HAPPY to have a flat white from Starbucks.
What are your favorite trends currently?
My all-time favorite trend at the moment is the loose, wild, garden-inspired bouquet. It is JUST SO GORGEOUS! There are a million ways you can personalize this type of bouquet. The roses that are trending right now are out of this world. The farms have really been pushing their game and bringing gorgeous unique varieties to market; types of blooms that were not available even just a few years ago. The creativity is exploding.
What is something brides/clients are surprised to learn about you and/or your business?
You might be surprised to know that all of our flowers are sourced from eco-sustainable farms. You might also be surprised to know that we began as an event planning company – our eye for detail and the desire to push the envelope is rooted in that background of ours.
What is your favorite on-the-job memory?
I will never forget we had a bride who came to us for wedding flowers, but she had a very tight budget, almost non-existent. Her husband was handicapped and a veteran and they were trying to pull together a wedding. We agreed to do her bouquets for her because that was all she could afford. Little did she know, on the day of her wedding we showed up with a ton of flowers – she had centerpieces and aisle pieces; all kinds of flowers – needless to say, it was incredible to see how happy and touched they both were when they saw this incredible gift. Because of that experience we now actually take on five clients a year who have suffered a hardship and we “gift” them with a full wedding of flowers – unbeknownst to them, until their wedding day of course. Their family and friends can nominate them and we choose randomly.
P.S. if you know a couple who you think deserves the gift of flowers for their wedding day, nominate them on our website! They might get the surprise of their life!
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Seeing the face of the brides when their flowers are revealed is SO rewarding. I know this is cliché, but it is literally the reason I do what I do. Also being able to provide jobs and create a great and nourishing work environment is incredible as well. I love my team, I love the flowers, I love the brides.
