Behind the Scenes: Bridal Hair & Makeup
Every bride deserves to look and feel like a princess at her wedding, and there is no better way to achieve this than to hire a professional hair & makeup artist for the big day. Whether your taste is bold and glamorous or more soft and natural, hair & makeup artists will dazzle you by applying your makeup in a way that not only complements your dress, but shows off your beauty in a way that is true to you. The talented Scoobie West of Scoobie West & Company handled the hair and makeup for our model in our Summer 2015 cover pictorial, and he is here to talk about the effects of hair & makeup not only on the bride, but on the wedding day as a whole.
How does hair and makeup play a role in the day’s overall look & feel?
Beautiful hair and makeup isn’t enough in today’s wedding society. Not only do you have to be able to produce a beautiful product, you also have to be cordial and capable of changing the mood in a room! Too often, I’ve seen wedding photos that were beautiful, but the bride looked worried or stressed out. Typically the hair and makeup team are the first people the bride and her maids see on the wedding day, so we truly have an opportunity to create a fun and positive atmosphere that transcends into the remainder of the day. We also get to make women of all ages and ethnicities look and feel beautiful and special!
I would encourage everyone in the wedding party to get hair and makeup done (moms, granmothers, bridesmaids, etc). — have you ever seen a bride that was stunning, but you couldn’t focus on her because your eye kept going to the one bridesmaid that didn’t wear any makeup? When you look at a photo, your eyes instantly focus on the one thing that isn’t right or doesn’t fit…this is something you want to avoid on the wedding day.
Our hair and makeup looks always reflect glamour and a certain element of chic-ness (did I just make a word)? We always err on the side of classic, less is more kind of look rather than overdoing it.
