There is a lot of city-life appeal to Atlanta. The food, arts and social scene alone draw people to the capital city in droves…and we’re talking weddings, too. But for as much energy its streets emulate, there’s nothing like the vast Georgia countryside that lies not too far outside the infamous city “perimeter.” And it was just that sweet southern, wide-open-spaces feel that Zachary & Lauren wanted for their big day. So, they held their picturesque outdoor ceremony and reception in Suwanee, Georgia at the scenic River Club. Sweet mint and peach details shot by Getz Creative Photography, and a couple oh so in love has got us saying big-city-who??
Can you give us an overview of the event? We had family and friends attend from all over the country, many of whom had never been to the Southeast before, so we really wanted to show them the true meaning of Southern Hospitality! The River Club in Suwanee, Georgia was the perfect Southern backdrop to our big day! The ceremony took place on the back lawn overlooking the beautiful golf course; dinner was served in the clubhouse and was followed by dancing in the outdoor pavilion
What were the playful twists that made your event unique? One of the most unique twists was that I walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey. The standard Wedding March was just a little too stuffy and traditional for us, and Jouney has always had a special place in our relationship. It was funny to watch the look of realization slowly come over the guests faces as I made my way down the aisle. We also ended the night with a few rounds of flip cup! Teams were made up of members of the bridal party, friends from school, even adult family members who were a little too good to have been beginners as they claimed!
Tell us about the food and desserts: It was truly a Southern feast! Highlights included pecan crusted chicken skewers, tempura fried stuffed squash blossoms, a shrimp and grits action station, and Sugar Smack BACON, a delicious brown sugar candied bacon that our guests are STILL talking about! Dinner was followed by a three tier traditional white wedding cake as well as chocolate, red velvet, and funfetti cupcakes! This bride and groom had no problem eating at their wedding!
How did he propose? We were visiting his family in Atlanta for Christmas and I have to say, after 6 years of dating, I was expecting it… but when it came time to open presents there was no ring. I was disappointed. Later that day while we were driving up to my parents’ in South Carolina, he told me he had another present for me. I got all excited again. When we got to my parents’ house we opened presents with them and he gave me a little bag… I removed the tissue paper… it was an iPod. Disappointed yet again. He made reservations for us for New Year’s Eve at a new downtown restaurant we had wanted to try. When we were leaving he said he had one more present for me. I refused to let myself get excited again. He handed me a large shirt box… not a small ring box. Sigh. As I opened it I lost sight of him… inside the box was a Philadelphia Eagles jersey (being from Philadelphia, he’s a HUGE Eagles fan). He told me to turn it around. On the back he had it personalized to say Mrs. Lando. I turned to look at him and he was on his knee with the most stunning ring held out in front of him! We rushed home to share the news with my family and then headed back downtown to meet up with friends and celebrate. I say it was the best way to RING in the New Year!
What were the honeymoon plans? We took so much time off prior to the wedding to plan that we decided to postpone the honeymoon til our 1 year anniversary… We have something to look forward to in the future and it’s a great way to prolong the excitement of the wedding!
