Rustic elegance, rainswept dancing, lighthearted joy. The day Katie and Jay said their vows to one another at St. Augustine wedding venue the St. Augustine Rod and Gun Club was a flurry of excitement and unexpected surprises. When tropical storm Achilles touched ground on the morning of their wedding, Katie and Jay were determined that weather wouldn’t get in the way of their fun. Rainfall cast a romantic mood over the natural, outdoorsy theme of the affair, accented by oak and cedar centerpieces, personalize river rocks, and the jade canopies of moss-draped live oaks. Bridesmaids in coral dresses preceded Katie down the aisle where Jay waited alongside their most honored friends and family. Guests enjoyed a meal catered by Purple Olive Restaurant caterers before dancing to the lively tunes of Beachside Entertainment. A thunderstorm rocked the reception at the height of the celebration taking the romance and energy to a place the newlyweds had only dreamed of! Images of this celebration are brought to you by St. Augustine wedding photographer Daybreak Studios!
Tell us how you met. Was it love at first sight, blind date, friends forever?
We have been friends since high school, remained friends through undergraduate school at UF. We didn’t get together until the last year of undergrad.
Now for the proposal…details!
We were on vacation in Puerto Rico. The weather had been a little rainy, but cleared up around mid afternoon. We went on a pretty challenging hike, one where I had to trust that Jay knew what the tide was doing. We were on a secluded beach and Jay dropped to one knee and asked.
Tell us about your wedding gown and what your wedding party wore.
My wedding gown was custom made by Daniel Thompson. I went for many fittings for sizing and it turned out beautifully! My bridesmaids wore dresses from Hawaii where my MOH lives. She found a great deal and great coral color.
What was the best wedding advice you received?
Always stay friends.
What was the most memorable moment?
Right after getting married, after the ceremony, we had enough time to take some pictures outside. The weather was perfect, breezy but not raining. We were able to have a special moment under a big live oak for some photos.
Was there a specific theme or style?
Natural, outdoors theme.
What were the honeymoon plans?
We went to St. John in the USVI. it was beautiful, we stayed in an inn right off the national park (the jungle).
