Playful elegance. An exquisitely sweet expression of love. That was Stephanie and Daniel’s wedding day, the two of them exchanging vows at St. Augustine wedding venue the Casa Monica Hotel — right across from Flagler College, where they met — beneath an endless sapphire sky. Stephanie glowed with excitement as she and Daniel made their way to the reception where they greeted their closest friends and family for the first time as husband and wife. It was everything Stephanie had envisioned, from the fabric-draped, up-lit walls, to the custom-monogramed dance floor, to the chic white lounge furniture and gourmet meal. The night was a perfect social scene, St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights illuminating the city outside in countless twinkling lights. The newlyweds danced the night away before an unforgettable send-off to their honeymoon in St. Lucia. This dream come true is brought to you by Jacksonville wedding photographer J’Adore Studios!
Tell us how you met. Was it love at first sight, blind date, friends forever?
Daniel and I met my very first week of college at Flagler in St. Augustine. We immediately clicked and became best friends. For over two years every single one of our friends had told us that we would end up together, they saw the undeniable chemistry that we shared. Finally after going to a pre-season Miami Heat game in Jacksonville, FL he told me how he felt all of these years. We heard a lot of “I told you so’s” after, but it was worth the wait. Our friendship set a foundation that created an unbreakable bond between us. We knew right after the proposal that we wanted to get married in the city that started our relationship.
Now for the proposal…details!
We both have busy schedules, him working in sports and me working in events so we always make time for date nights at least once a week. This night was unlike any other, we went to one of our favorite restaurants in St. Augustine and followed it by a walk on the beach. We then sat down and just listened to the waves crash on the sand as we looked up at hundreds of stars. All of a sudden I saw a shooting star, which Daniel replied make sure to make a wish! I laughed and he then asked well did you make it? I responded with a big yes and he followed with I bet I know what you wished for. He started to stand up and then got down on one knee right in front of me and asked me to be his wife! It was the most magical moment, I was so excited that I forgot to say yes!
What was the most memorable moment?
The most memorable moment was without a doubt our first look. The second I saw him standing there in the courtyard of our college where we met I couldn’t hold it together. It was the most special moment for the both of us to share together before we were surrounded by our family and friends. It set the tone for the rest of the evening!
Was there a specific theme or style?
Working in the event/wedding industry I had seen just about every theme and style you can imagine so it was difficult to choose just one. I decided to mix our modern style with the romantic vibe of downtown St. Augustine.
Tell us about your wedding gown and what your wedding party wore.
Since my family lives in South Florida we met halfway in Orlando to go dress shopping. I was set on wearing a mermaid wedding dress, but after trying on about a dozen dresses with no luck my sister pulled the largest ballgown in the shop and said to try it on for fun. I fell in love with it immediately, it was a Sottero and Midgley and it brought me to tears. Since all of my bridesmaids were spread across the state I decided to go to Bella Bridesmaid and pick out something they could just order online. I fell in love with a gorgeous Love Lane crinkle chiffon floor length dress in blush, it even had pockets. It was perfect and it looked beautiful on all of my friends.
Did you DIY any of the details?
I knew that I wanted to add small touches of glitter around the room so I purchased wooden numbers and dipped them in gold glitter. I also continued the design by purchasing votive candles and created a gold rim around each one. It was a small touch of sparkle that went a long way with the table decor.
Tell us about the food and desserts.
The food was absolutely amazing, I left that choice for Daniel and my parents and they did a wonderful job! We started with four options of hor dourves from goat cheese on crostini to mini crab cakes. We started with a Caesar salad followed by the option of fire grilled Omaha filet or prosciutto and basil wrapped chicken. Our cake was a traditional almond cake with mocha filling and was delicious.
If there was one thing you could change, what would it be?
Absolutely nothing! Our wedding was more then we ever could have imagined, we wish it could have lasted longer!
