I usually try to contain my Texan drawls online but today I just have to let it out. Ya’ll!! This is the first ever elopement we’ve had the privilege to feature and I’m in an absolute fit over it. Believe me when I say, the bar has been set high. Kylie and John were married on the the campus of their Alma mater with just the pastor, two witnesses and may I just say, one heck of a bridal ensemble? Get ready to swoon-baby-swoon over the images captured by Holli B. Photography. Happy Friday!
Can you give us an overview of the event? After learning the complications of becoming legally married in Mexico, we decided to throw together a simple yet romantic elopement on the college campus where we met and graduated.
Was there a specific theme or style? Simple elegance with a touch of rustic flair.
What was the most memorable moment? Saying our vows under a gorgeous oak tree with only each other, our pastor, and our two witnesses
Tell us about the proposal! I always wanted my proposal to be a surprise…and a surprise it was! Some family friends have a gorgeous horse ranch about 30 miles from our home in Norman and it has always been a favorite place of mine. My mother nonchalantly suggested we all go up to the ranch on Halloween as it fell on a Sunday that year. When she told me to be sure to invite John along I never in a million years would have guessed that he had secretly been planning the entire event! Once we got up to the ranch, our family friend suggested we take two of the horses down to the large pasture to check on something…little did I know it was all a ploy for John to ask me to be his wife. Once we got down to the pasture, the sun was slowly beginning to set and we both got off of our horses to “check on the water.” As soon as I turned around I saw him drop to one knee and pull out the most gorgeous ring I have ever laid eyes on. He told me how nothing in this world would make him happier than having me by his side for the rest of his life, asked me to be his wife, and the rest is history! The last surprise of the evening was riding back and seeing my entire family and his waiting for us. He had planned an intimate engagement party complete with a cookout and champagne. It was absolutely perfect in every single way, and it will always be one of my favorite days!
How did you meet? We met through mutual friends while attending the University of Oklahoma. It was definitely love at first sight, we’ve been inseparable ever since!
Tell us about your wedding dress: I wore my late grandmother’s wedding dress. It fit like a glove and it was one of the happiest feelings as I put it on before I married the man of my dreams!
What was the best wedding advice you received? Don’t sweat the small stuff. Take time to remind yourself of what the day is truly about…you and your groom!
What were the honeymoon plans? After our campus elopement, we left for Mexico five short days later with 50 of our closest family and friends!
