For all of you do-it-yourself brides out there, today’s real wedding is for you! Christopher and Elizabeth said I do at the oh-so-scenic Claxton Farm in North Carolina. Both avid outdoor enthusiasts, they knew that a rustic, down home, hand-made affair was the way to go. An Atlanta wedding photography company named Alternative Life Photography & Design has all of the lovely details to show you just how they pulled it off!
Can you give us an overview of the event? It was an evening wedding at Claxton Farm, located on the outskirts of Asheville, NC. The ceremony was held in a pasture with picturesque mountains as a backdrop- It was perfect..wildflowers were scattered and the sky was a perfect shade of Carolina blue. A traditional christian ceremony was carried out before the wedding festivities began in the reception barn.
Was there a specific theme or style? The theme of our wedding was rustic elegance- We wanted the beauty and simplicity of the country and the farm but still the essence of an evening wedding. We were able to achieve this by blending the elements of nature with candlelight, white floral, such as hydrangeas and anemones, and black lace.
How did you meet? We first met working together in a pub. I was fresh our of nursing school and Chris was working his way through college. It started out as innocent flirting because we were both in other relationships. After that job and those relationships and a few months passed, we met back up for a mutual friend’s birthday. It took one kiss and we were hooked. We have been inseparable since.
Tell us how you proposed! So one Friday Chris decided to load up the truck and take me out for a special weekend getaway. I had a rough few days at work and Chris is always thinking of sweet ways to make me feel special so I didn’t think anything suspicious was brewing. He knew how much I love surprises so he didnt tell me where we were headed and I had to close my eyes halfway to our destination. When I opened my eyes, we were pulling up the gravel drive of the biggest horse ranch I have ever seen. Horses were passion before college and nursing…he knew me all to well. We spent the weekend on horseback riding across pastures and through trails. We had the best time. Our last night on the ranch Chris and I went for a walk at sunset. He made me think that it was so I could take pictures of all the horses grazing- I took my camera everywhere and love taking pictures so this made sense. I started clicking away, taking pictures of all the horses in their natural setting- a view I could never get tired of. We were in a pasture surrounded by about 30 horses when I turned around to find Chris down on one knee. He told me how much he loved me and that he wanted me to be his wife. It was the most perfect moment ever.
Tell us about your wedding dress and what your wedding party wore: My gown is an Essence of Australia- French Mikato Gown. I knew it was “the one” right away- It is a fit and flare with the perfect amount of detail- not too much, not too little. A few gems and sequins adorned the sweetheart neckline in addition to two locations where the dress gathered on the front and back. The bridesmaid’s dresses were a perfect shade of teal (my favorite color)- Bill Levkoff
What was the best advice your received? To remember to enjoy each other throughout the wedding planning experience…whenever the stress would creep in, we would remember that this was a time of our life that we would always remember and in the end we would come out married no matter what.
What were the honeymoon plans? We spent 7 amazing days on the Island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean. We relaxed on the beach some, but spent most of our time exploring and doing activities. While there, we rode a catamaran, snorkeled, hiked, and rode horseback on the beach. We also ate a lot of great food. It was paradise!
