It is hard to beat the beauty of a wedding on the shores of New England. The sharp, salty sea air, the steel blue waters, and the prestigious ships docked up and down the coastline. It is no surprise so many brides would want to marry in such a lovely atmosphere! But why would any southern girl journey so far north when she can have the nautical magic of a New England celebration right at home? That’s right! In this styled shoot planned by a wedding photographer in Atlanta, Willett Photography, New England charm is brought down South — more specifically, to Lake Lanier in Buford, Georgia. Filled with navy, yellow, and white and touches of wood and burlap, this shoot was awash with seaside details great and small, from the flag shaped escort cards to the netting used as a table runner. But one of my absolute favorite elements? The silverware with handles resembling fisherman’s knots! Hop aboard a boat and sip a glass of champagne as you sail to this gorgeous shoot by Willett Photography!
What inspired our photo shoot was having the feeling of a Cape Cod, Nantucket type wedding in the good ol’ South. I love the feeling of the New England coastline and wanted to show that you could achieve the same aesthetic on Lake Lanier with the right design elements and styling. Navy is always a classic wedding color and by adding a pop of yellow, it really brought the whole photo shoot together. A huge wooden sailboat would be a perfect way to have an intimate wedding or a champagne cruise before the big day and I wanted to translate the sophisticated feeling into the photo shoot by keeping our designs simple and classic.
STATIONERY & OTHER PAPER PRODUCTS
I actually designed and printed our paper-products. I drew inspiration from nautical flags on boats in the New England harbors I’ve seen in the past. By keeping everything simple, we really translated the look of New England.
FLOWERS & DECOR
The florals and decor were the handy-work of Bailey from BASH events. She designs florals for many of her weddings and has a knack for identifying the elements we wanted to incorporate into the shoot. To keep with our New England style wedding, we drew inspiration from the cedar planked houses located all along the northern coast and the white and navy of the boats. Wooden chivarri chairs, fishing nets, and nautical flags were the perfect additions to the scene. The flatware was reminiscent of a fisherman’s knot and added another fabulous element to the tablescape.
Wedding Angels let us use two of the most fabulous, chic and timeless dresses in the shop. I wanted one look to be a classic one shoulder chiffon to flow in the wind of the sailboat and the other to add a little more glam to the shoot. Our brunette model was wearing a perfectly soft chiffon style dress the could be worn at a barn wedding or easily translate into coastal wedding. Our blonde model was wearing a fully beaded dress that would shimmer in the light, but maintained a classic silhouette to tone down the glam. Our groom was perfect in his suspenders and bow tie , in the classic navy, of course. We kept hair and make-up simplistic and fashion forward. Claudia from Claudia Mejerle Hair & Make-Up brought a soft, fresh, sun-kissed glow to our make-up style and highlighted our models best assets without going overboard (pun intended!).
