Coming to a blog near you, the May 2012 wedding of Alex and Cristina. This romantic and elegantly rustic wedding was held at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre in historic Marietta. It was the perfect backdrop for this couple as they had first met at Hemmingways Restaurant in the Marietta Square. This classic black and white themed wedding was a rooftop celebration with close friends and family, the majority of which flew in from all over the world. Even as far as Hong Kong, where her Dad lives. Grab your popcorn and have a seat, the wedding photographed by Atlanta wedding photographer Brita Photography is about to start!
Tell us how you met…
Alex and I met in the Marietta Square at Hemmingways Restaurant. We were both out with friends and our groups had some mutual friends so I introduced myself to Alex. We seemed to talk the entire night and had a lot in common, I loved Alex’s perfect teeth, he was so handsome and I loved chatting with him. We exchanged numbers and went on an official first date shortly after our initial meeting and the rest is history, we’ve been together non-stop ever since, Alex is truly my best friend and the love of my life.
Can you give us an overview of the event?
We had our wedding ceremony and reception at The Strand Theater in Marietta, GA. Our ceremony was on the 2nd floor ballroom and our reception was on the 4th floor ballroom and balcony. The balcony overlooked the historic Marietta Square. The weather forecast was thunderstorms and it turned out to be a clear and beautiful night, it was actually the night of the “super moon” and you could see it from our balcony. It was magical. We had station style catering by Carriage House Catering along with passed appetizers and even a crape station for dessert. The best part for Alex and I was that 55 of the 65 guests at our wedding traveled to GA from out of state as I am from California and Alex is from Ohio. We were just thrilled that everyone came from so far to be part of our special day.
Tell us about your wedding gown and what your bridal party wore.
My gown was by Pronovias. It was off white sweetheart top and form fitting the knees. My bridesmaids wore black simple knee length gowns from Davids Bridal. My now step-mother in law made my bridesmaids jewelry. The men wore Express and only wore vests, no jackets. The groomsmen wore stripe shirts and Alex wore white.
What were your playful twists that made the event unique?
We did a father/daughter mother/son combined dance to “Georgia” by Ray Charles since Alex and I met in GA.
Did you DIY any of the details?
I hand made the bar signs for our signature drinks.
What was the most memorable moment?
Our pastor was Alex’s uncle and he had asked all our guests questions about us prior to the wedding and told us what they said during the ceremony, it was such a sweet surprise.
Tell us about the food and desserts.
We had station style catering (carving station and crate your own pasta station) by Carriage House Catering along with passed appetizers. We had a create your own crepe station for dessert along with wedding cake.
What kind of energy did your entertainment give the guests?
It was non stop fun. We had a small wedding and only invited our closest friends and family. Everyone knew each other which made for a really unique evening.
What was the best wedding advice you received?
