You don’t have to grow up in the South to fall in love with its magic, and ever since she was a little girl visiting friends and relatives in Georgia, Brittany has been enchanted with the southern way of living. So when the opportunity came for her to wed Brad at the beautiful Kissimmee, Florida, property of one of his cousins, Brittany was thrilled! As most of their family and friends would also be traveling from Chicago for the wedding, Brittany and Brad wished to provide guests with a unique wedding experience like none other, full of southern grace, vintage charm, and lots of personalized details. And they certainly succeeded! Though the big day started with rainy weather in its forecast, nothing could dampen the sunshine of this celebration, especially with the bride’s chosen color palette of bright yellow and charcoal gray. Clothed in a classic gown with a lace bodice and satin train, Brittany wed Brad beneath the shade of three Spanish moss-covered oak trees before one hundred of their loved ones. The simple decor and handmade details of the tent reception that followed put huge smiles on the faces of all in attendance. Those smiles only widened when guests were served cuisine by Two Chicks and a Pot, which included shrimp and grits, personal chicken pot pies, prime rib and sides of mashed potatoes and honey green beans. Did you DIY any of the details?
I wanted a brooch bouquet much like the one Miranda Lambert had at her wedding. Thanks to Brad’s mother Patti, I was able to carry out that wish by making a custom brooch bouquet out of old brooches from both our families.
What was the most memorable moment?
Seeing each other for the first time! Our photographer asked if we wanted to have first look photos done and at first we weren’t too sure about it. Traditionally you don’t see one another until the wedding ceremony and didn’t want to lose the magic of that moment. Were we wrong! It was such a special intimate moment for the two of us and would not have traded anything for it. For anyone who has the chance of first look photos we would 100% recommend it! For us, it is something we will cherish forever.
Tell us about your wedding gown and what your wedding party wore.
My wedding gown was a classic dress from The Bridal Mansion in Lisle, IL. The top half was thick embroidered lace with a brooch embellishment under the chest. The bottom half was shiny satin with a train. The bridesmaids wore sunbeam yellow dresses from David’s Bridal with gray pearl cluster necklaces. The groom and groomsmen wore charcoal gray pinstripe suits from The Suit House in Aurora, IL , white shirts from express, and yellow paisley ties from the tiebar.com.
We want to know about all the wedding details. Was it small and intimate or big and traditional?
Our wedding was small and intimate. We had only about 100 of our close friends and family. Most of them live in the Chicagoland area so we were grateful they all were able to travel to Florida for our special day.
Was there a specific theme or style? What inspired it?
We wanted to have a vintage chic wedding with southern elements. Our wedding stylist, Sarah from Weddings by Two Plus Hue, incorporated many DIY details into our decor. From hand painted table numbers and personalized hand crafted signs to a wedding color themed candy bar and a custom made rustic stand used as a martini bar. She was able to give us the unique wedding we envisioned.
