Because of the bride-to-be’s love for the ocean, Michigan couple Ashlee and Adam decided to be adventurous and have a destination wedding in lovely Key West, Florida! The pair’s closest family and friends (only sixty-five total) flew south to the beach, where the weekend’s festivities began with the wedding rehearsal and then a sunset cruise on the Atlantic, drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and dancing enjoyed by all! The next morning, Ashlee beamed brighter than the sun as she prepared for the big day, dressing in a gown of dreamy lace with an elegant keyhole back. Guests relaxed and buried their toes in the sand as they watched the two lovebirds become Mr. and Mrs. A reception awash in aqua, white. and nautical decor followed at Key West wedding venue Southernmost Hotel Collection, where all were offered a delicious choice of mahi-mahi, filet mignon, or chicken alfredo for a meal. What were your playful twists that made the event unique?
Our playful twists were the DIY things we made for wedding decor. Also, my husband and I wrote each other letters before the ceremony and we read them holding hands with a door between us so the photographer could capture both of us without seeing each other.
What was the most memorable moment?
The most memorable moment was when I was walking down the aisle and saw the wedding all set up so beautifully with the palm trees blowing and the ocean as out backdrop. It was hard to take everything in, all our guest were our closest family and friends that traveled just to see us, and then there was Adam under a beautiful arch waiting for me. It was PERFECT!
My smartest savings were doing a few DIY projects for the wedding. I had help making a brooch bouquet out of family heirloom brooches. I also had a lady on Etsy design a wedding program for very little cost and printed them out myself and made a fan out of them, and lastly found an old ship wheel and fastened guests names with clothes pins for our seating chart.
Tell us how you met. Was it love at first sight, blind date, friends forever?
Adam and I knew each other for years and would bump into each other on random occasions. He would even ask a boyfriend I had that worked out at the same gym as him if we were still dating. Finally after a few years he worked up enough courage to ask me out on a date. It was a disaster. We got sushi, I spilled soy sauce all over his nice white polo, there was barely any talking, and the rest his history!
Tell us about the wedding cake.
Our cake was the least expensive thin out of the wedding and it was one of the biggest hits, thanks so Amazing Cakes and Creations. They perfected a white cake with key lime filling that was ruffled in fondant and had gold trim on the edges. It was brilliant!
