Their sunset wedding on the beach of Key West was every bit the magical experience Samantha and Scott dreamed it would be. It was an affair to remember with unique twists that shone with an elegance all their own. From Samantha’s hot pink wedding dress, to their fathers conducting the ceremony, the bride and groom didn’t settle for anything outside of their one-of-a-kind vision. Samantha walked down the aisle to the tune of the Beatles’ “Across the Universe,” the ocean shimmering behind her groom, and they vowed their love to one another as the sun inched across the horizon. Family and friends were treated to gourmet fare following the ceremony, with decadent dishes of crab cake with caper remoulade, lobster bites and mango, glazed chicken, blackened grouper and more, all expertly prepared by Casa Marina. The wedding cake boasted bright pink flowers to match the bride’s gown, each layer of icing a different flavor sure to satisfy the pickiest of sweet connoisseurs. The newlyweds danced the night away to the sounds of The Bay King Band, the party lasting well into the night. Tell us how you met. Was it love at first sight, blind date, friends forever?
We met at a party and fortunately we had a mutual friend there which gave us the chance we wanted to talk to each other.
Now for the proposal…details!
Scott proposed to me on Valentine’s Day of 2012. He took me out to dinner and ducked under the table to pretend he lost his phone. I started looking for it as well, and by the time I didn’t find it, he has placed the ring on the table in front of me and asked me to marry him.
Tell us about your wedding gown and what your wedding party wore.
My wedding gown and my sister who was my maid of honor’s dress were made by Lela Rose. In fact, my mother’s dress was made by her too! Our dear friend Marla Zimmerman of Choices in Pittsburgh, PA rocked us out in the most unique and modern dresses by our favorite designer!!!! My dress was hot pink and my sister’s was the same shade of green that was found in the flowers on the bottom of my dress.
What were your playful twists that made the event unique?
The color of my wedding dress was the most playful twist that definitely made our event unique. We had our fathers conduct our ceremony along with our rabbi which made it really special.
What was the most memorable moment?
For me it was walking down the aisle to Scott to “Across the Universe” by the Beatles and looking at the shore behind him while the sun was setting and knowing that all of our loved ones were experiencing this moment with us. Scott says that seeing my wedding dress for the first time, not knowing how different it was going to be, was his most memorable moment.
Tell us about the food and desserts.
The Casa Marina catered our food. For cocktail hour we had miniature crab cakes with caper remoulade, BBQ chicken empanadas with chipotle sauce, lobser bites with mango curry sauce and sweet watermelon drops with goat cheetse, micro greens and aged balsamic. Dinner was a choice of lemon and garlic glazed chicken with asparagus and safron risotto or lightly blackened grouper with mango salsa, pomegrantate reduction and roasted sweet potatoe and haricot vert. We served a tomatoe, mozzerella and mascarpone stack with baby greens, pesto and balsamic greens for a salad. Our wedding cake had bright pink fondant flowers on it to match my dress and each layer was a different flavor cake and icing!
Was there a specific theme or style?
We were aiming for elegance for the ceremony and we incorporated this style with a twist for the reception. My wedding dress was hot pink so we incorporated this color in our ceremony and reception.
What was the best wedding advice you received?
Enjoy the ride because it goes by way too fast!
