It’s not often you hear of a couple who’s known each other twenty-four years getting married, but that’s the rare beauty of Brenda and Chuck’s love story! After first crossing paths in 1989 and a phone interview five years later, the two found themselves working together, and as the years passed, the pair became best friends . . . then more than friends. Chuck surprised Brenda with a proposal after a dinner date, and the couple began planning their gorgeous spring wedding in “The Windy City.” The glowing bride wore a silk dress with lace and sequin details, and the bridesmaids were elegant beside her in their floor-length navy gowns. Glowing candles lined the aisle, and 125 witnesses sat in golden Chiavari chairs and watched with delight as the couple exchanged their vows. Soft colors and exquisite decor awaited guests at the reception, and following a delicious 4-course meal from the chefs of the venue, everyone was on their feet grooving to the sound The Gold Coast All Stars! This celebration of lasting love was captured by Chicago wedding photographer Riverbend Studio!
Tell us how you met. Was it love at first sight, blind date, friends forever?
Chuck and I have known each other for 24 years, first crossing paths back in 1989. Five years later after a phone call and interview with Chuck, I would find myself working for a Medical Device Manufacturer as a Customer Service representative for their newly acquired company. And so the story goes… I had the privilege to work with a group of extraordinary people who became our friends for life- through thick and thin; we have shared the good times, bad times, happy times and sad times. And through it all, I found a best friend. My go-to-guy. The Big Irishman. The one we all know as a leader, a confidant, a partner in crime, and a friend. He truly has the biggest heart of anyone I know. It is true blue.
Tell us about your wedding gown and what your wedding party wore.
I wore a beautiful creation by James Clifford Hjelm. The dress was made from a candlelight silk with a strapless rouched bodice; trimmed in lace and sequins along the top and waist. The bottom of the dress is a fitted trumpet style with a small train extending off the back of the dress. My wedding party wore dark navy blue dresses by Allure Bridals. The dresses were strapless with a fitted rouched bodice, and a beautiful ruffle cascading down off a silk flower set at the waistline.
Now for the proposal…details!
Chuck grew up in Chicago and the majority of his family still resides there. He holds his family close to his heart, and both these things factored in to his plan to propose. What I thought to be family trip to Chicago with Chuck and my children, turned out to be a most special night and the beginning of our lifetime together. After a wonderful dinner at The Four Seasons, I received a surprise proposal which prompted a tearful YES!
What was the most memorable moment?
When we exchanged our vows- it was a very spiritual and heartfelt moment between the two of us.
Tell us about the wedding reception.
Variations of all neutral tones were chosen for the overall design of the space mixed together with clear glass fixtures and muted gold metallic accents to create a soft, intimate room with small pops of rich navy in the paper goods. Lots of candlelight and amber lighting provided a warm glowing effect. Textural linens were used to give the space depth, while custom seating lounges and mirror topped bars were placed to design a warm, welcoming and cozy environment for the guests.
What kind of energy did your entertainment give the event?
Gold Coast All Stars……To say they exceeded our expectations is an understatement- the energy they brought to the room was extraordinary; the music never stopped, and the dance floor was never empty- not one minute of our reception. We wanted a great band that’s would entertain our guests, and play great music., and they are THE band. Everyone still talks about the reception and the great band we had- no one wanted the night to end!
