Horse ranch, wildflowers, custom gown, gorgeous couple and glowing reception in the barn — pretty much romance defined, don’t you think? We have a real gem of a wedding to share with you today, shot by the ever talented Atlanta wedding photographer Sharon Theresa Wheaton photography. Grab your lunch and sit down to a day full of love and lovely design!
Can you give us an overview of the event? Our wedding was held on the horse ranch of family friends in Canton, Ga. it was a beautiful fall evening. Our ceremony was held under two majestic oaks a blaze with fall color in the pasture, which our photographers captured perfectly! Then we partied the night away with family and friends
What were your playful twists that made the event unique? For years we had said at our wedding we wanted the minister to start with the line from the wedding scene in “A Princess Bride” Marewage marewage is what bwings us togever today….Our Minister pulled it off FLAWLESSLY! We also selected music during the procession and for me to walk into that was very meaningful to our relationship. We also mixed up the bridal party’s I had bridesmen and bridesmaids, Jacob had groomsmen and groomsmaids.
Did you DIY any of the details? We designed and produced our programs, seating charts and table number, most of the decor, to include 210 copper wrapped hanging mason jars, candy table, hours spent scouring flea markets and thrift stores to find candles and special little items for the tables, We, along with two of our best friends Lauren, Nick and Jacob’s mom did all the flowers for the entire wedding. We also acquired 200 native saplings from the GA Department of Forestry that we potted and wrapped with ribbons as our “thank you” gift.
What was the most memorable moment? For Jacob it was the time after the ceremony while taking our photos. He has said it was the few minutes during the day where it was just us enjoying the moment. Our photographers where there but not intrusive, they just left us to be with one another with very limited direction and captured every blissful moment! For me it was the moment after our minister proclaimed us Husband and Wife. Jacob looked at me right before our first married kiss and the world melted away it was only he and I in that moment!
Tell us about the food and desserts: Our cocktail hour featured passed hors ‘oeuvres of Classic Shrimp Cocktail on Crouton, Fire Roasted Vegetables on Croutons, Smoked Pork Tenderloin with Blackberry Drizzle, A beautiful table featuring all manner of fruit and a variety of cheeses. For dinner we served Mixed Field Greens Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette. Bistro Filet Medallions with Red Wine Demi-glaze, Boursin Cheese Stuffed Roasted Chicken, Shrimp & Broccoli Pasta Alfredo with Cajun Cream, Cast Iron Skillet Red Potatoes & Herbs, Seasonal Vegetable Medley and Green Beans Almondine. We also provide kids meal of chicken tenders, mac n cheese and broccoli for all our little guest. For Dessert we had a candy table with our favorite sweet treats and a small cake for each table.
Tell us how you met? Jacob and I met while working some 8 years ago although we never dated while working he would greet me everyday by asking “so, how’s my future wife” who knew?
Now for the proposal! We had started some planning but, Jacob didn’t officially propose until the morning he left for Afghanistan. He woke up early, quietly crept into the bathroom came out dropped to one knee next to the bed, brought out my beautiful ring and asked me to marry him. After much blithering on my part I managed to squeak out yes!
Tell us about your wedding gown, and what your wedding party wore: My wedding gown was a custom one of a kind created (with my input) by my now friend the wonderfully talented Sam Haley of Sam Haley Designs. After trying on MANY gowns in various bridal shoppes, I just couldn’t find the “one”. Enter Sam Haley who took several ideas I has gathered and created My DRESS! I recommended this to anyone who feels like they are settling on a dress to go this route. It was roughly the same cost as buying a designer dress that 1,000 other women will be wearing! She also made Jacob’s vest and tie out of my dress material. My bridesmaids also wore a Sam Haley design of black lace and raw silk. We kept the gentlemen comfortable and relaxed in black dress slacks, white shirt, black vest and tie. We really wanted the bridal party attire something they could and would use again.
What was the best advice you received? My very wonderful mother-in-law said “remember at the end of the day no matter what happens you two will be just as married!”
What were the honeymoon plans? Jacob and I choose to spend 8 glorious days on the beautiful and romantic Island Antigua at the Sandals Grand Resort.
