With the whirlwind of late nights and design wrap up we’ve been in (wrapping up our fall issue!), we’ve been somewhat out of the real event saddle…but boy are we glad to be back at it today! Holly Jones, an Atlanta wedding photographer sent us this lovely vintage inspired day, and it’s chock full of the sentimental detail and elegant charm that we love so very much. Their stunning hotel wedding venue the Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris, GA near North Carolina provided stunning views perfect for their big day. Enjoy!
What was the most memorable moment? The toasts. We were truly touched by my father, my sisters, and John’s brothers speeches. I have never seen my dad cry before and having him talk about loving my husband as his own son was amazing. And hearing my sisters speak about how much they look up to me and are excited to have the Brother they never had joining the family truly touched my heart. Also, I think the best thing was the speech that was prepared by John’s brother who is deployed overseas in the US Marine Corps. It was read by one of the groomsmen and I know it was so great to hear some words from him even though he couldnt have been there.
What inspired the theme or style? Kristine loves anything antique or vintage. One of John & Kristine’s favorite pastimes is going to antique stores and garage/estate sales finding unique collectibles and furniture. Kristine is also a very sentimental person, using her grandmothers brooch, and mother’s handkerchief that she used in her wedding as pieces wrapped around her bouquet.
Tell us about the proposal! John had just gotten home from Japan and he was stationed in North Carolina. He was home for the weekend ( Easter weekend) and we had planned to go to my Grandmothers house to celebrate. I had just moved into a new house closeby and I was excited to show it off to my family…so they all decided to take a little road trip over to my house to see it. Little did I know, as soon as we were leaving John had planned to propose. So finally after everyone left he asked me if I wanted to take the dog for a walk to the park. Of course I said no because I was exhausted and it was getting late. He kept asking and asking saying ” It will be fun come on lets go throw the ball for Pancho”…( our golden retriever). Finally I conceded, and we went to the park where we always go to throw the ball for our pup. As we were throwing it John says, ” Well I made dinner reservations for tonight” and of course I was like What! Why!? And he said ” To celebrate!” and I said, “to celebrate what, Easter??!” and before I knew he was down on one knee with a ring box open asking me to marry him. Of course I freaked out and said yes, we celebrated in the park for a few moments before calling everyone back at Grandmas. Then we went to our favorite steakhouse in Atlanta, Mckendrick’s for a relaxing dinner celebration.
Describe your wedding day in one sentence: Our wedding was truly the best day of our lives so far because it was such a reflection of our personal styles, traditional and classic. Just think of one huge close knit family all celebrating together, dancing the night away under the stars.
