There isn’t anything sweeter in the south than a Georgia peach (well, except maybe for our sweet tea). And Madison and Tommy’s intimate wedding held in front of 70 guests down in the romantic and quaint wine cellar at Braselton, Georgia’s Chateau Elan, a popular wedding and event venue, couldn’t have looked or smelled peachier. A real bonafide (Georgia) peach of a wedding for a true Georgia peach of a bride! So pick a peach off the tree and enjoy this sweet wedding with photography by Christi Sue Photography.
Tell us how you met…
Tommy and I first met in high school. He was a senior and I was a junior we had lunch aid class together. During lunch aid class Tommy and I got assigned to the same cleaning table and we started talking from there. I also had a boyfriend and Tommy was always my friend..so I thought. Tommy and I exchanged numbers because he was going to skip school to get me McDonald’s and he was going to call me when he got back to the school so I could run out and get the food. After we had each others numbers we started texting and talking, I would always call him if I was upset and we would talk for hours about everything. We talked off and on for years. Then one day after I broke up with my boyfriend Tommy wanted to get serious and I freaked out I told him I was going to college and I wanted the ”college experience” basically I didn’t wait to get into a relationship when him. We kept talking off and on when I was in college and over conversations moved to “us in the future” we would talk for hours everyday for weekend but when things got to serious I would stop talking to him..then a could weeks would go by and I would sents a “Hey, hope your doing great. I havent talk to you in a while” text and it would start all over again. basically after years of Tommy never giving up on me, he went on his first deployment. While he was on deployment I realized that I missed my best friend. It drove me crazy not being able to talk to him when I wanted but we stilled emailed. One day I got sick and he sent me a picture in a email of chicken noodle soup and right then I realized I wanted to be with him. When started “officially ” dating while he was still on deployment, (June 2011) during his deployment we planned a trip to Hawaii so on Aug 3, 2011 we boarded a plan to Hawaii. The only thing that terrified me was our first kiss, because I always looked at him as a best friend even though the whole time we were friends he was trying to steal me away from my current boyfriend. Little did I know.
Now for the proposal… details!
The proposal!! Once we got back from Hawaii, he had a couple more days before he had to leave to go back to Virginia. He came up to my apartment to hang out with me after I got off work. I kinda knew the proposal was coming because he always said once I gave him a chance there was no going back. We also talked about it a lot during many of our conversations. We were laying in bed watching TV, trying to figure out what were we should go eat and I could feel his heart pounding beside me..we decided to go to Chili’s and we headed for the door. He told me to wait and grabbed my hand and told me he couldn’t wait any longer. He got down on one knee and popped the question with my dream ring!!
We want to know about all the wedding details, was it small and intimate or big and traditional?
The wedding was small. The guests were all close family and friends. The ceremony and reception took place in the same room so it was not the traditional church aisle.
Tell us about your wedding gown and what your bridal party wore.
My wedding gown was by Vera Wang. It was the mermaid style with fun ruffles on the bottom. It also bubbled under on the bottom which was special to me because my sisters (MOH and best friend) wedding dress did the same thing. The bridesmaids wore a two-tone one shoulder dress from Dillards. It took me forever to find the perfect dress for them to go along with my peach theme!
Can you give us an overview of the event?
The event was incredible! The wedding was a small, intimate (candle light), and colorful. Chateau Elan was beautiful and the weather was perfect. The wedding was not only to show our love but meet each others family for the first time.
What inspired the theme or style?
I was moving to Virginia right after the wedding because Tommy is in the Navy. I was very sad to leave the beautiful state of Georgia behind and wanted my wedding to reflect the Georgia peach I am. I originally was going to do lemons since that would be my new last name, but peaches were such a big part of our life. Georgia was were we met, feel in love and where we all call home.
What were your playful twists that made the event unique?
Tommy and I wrote our own vows. Tommy and I have a unique love story and it took a lot for us to get here today. The vows showed of true love for each other and compassion we share.
Did you DIY any of the details?
One of my bridesmaids painted my quote, “Here’s to a life as sweet as a Georgia peach.” We also added leaves to the peach hand sanitizer to give them a little something special.
What was the most memorable moment?
The most memorable moment for me was seeing him at the end of the aisle, looking at me the way they depict it in the movies. Tommy is a romantic and makes my life a movie. I am big on the small things and just seeing him smile and knowing I was walking toward the man who I am going to spends the rest of my life with was incredible.
Tell us about the food and desserts.
Food, Yum!!! We had a yummy 3 course sit down dinner. Course 1 was Crisp Seasonal Mixed Green with cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots and buttermilk ranch dressing. Course 2 was a Duo- Entree of Grilled Marinated Chicken Breast and Grilled Filet Mignon. The entree had marsala sauce, cabernet reduction, wild mushroom risotto, baby carrots, zucchini and squash. There was also Chateau Elan wine service with dinner. Our last and 3rd course was our Wedding Cake. Our wedding cake was a rich vanilla creme cake with raspberry fillings topped in american buttercream frosting.
What kind of energy did your entertainment give the guests?
The energy at the wedding was very fun! I love to dance so during the whole reception I was on the dance floor dancing with my new husband surrounded by all our friends and family. Our entertainment played all the popular songs, including “Shots” where everyone ran to the bar and started doing shots!! My favorite song of the night was Sir Mix-A-Lot’s- Baby Got Back. All my friends and husband tells me I have a big butt so me and the new Mr. got down to that song.
If there was one thing you could change, what would it be?
If I could change one thing it would be to have my brother there. My sister-n-law was able to make it with my nieces and nephew but my older brother could not get off work in Texas and had to miss my wedding. Other than that everything was perfect. I could not have asked for a better location, weather, family and friends and husband.
What was the best wedding advice you received?
The best wedding advice we received and take to heart is..Don’t go to bed angry! Tommy and I always make sure we squish everything from our off day once we get into bed.
