When it came to celebrating their October nuptials, Kieu and John knew that their celebration would be a merge of not only their new lives together, but of their families’ history and traditions as well. Born in Vietnam and raised in the US, staying true to Kieu’s Vietnamese heritage throughout the day played an integral part in wedding planning for John and Kieu. A traditional Vietnamese Tea Ceremony served as a precursor to the actual marriage ceremony, where customs such as the presentation of gifts and the serving of wine to family members took place. Kieu describes seeing her groom for the first time as the unequivocal highlight of her day, and was walked down the aisle by her father wearing the traditional Vietnamese dress, Ao Dai, and hat, khan dong. In planning for their celebration, John and Kieu settled on the color red for both the ceremony and reception decor. Symbolizing good luck, the color could be found in everything from the trolley that the groom and groomsmen rode into the wedding on, to the parasols whimsically suspended over their evening reception at Atlanta wedding venue, Summerour Studio. Kieu and John chose to decorate their ceremony and reception in vibrant shades of red. The color is another nod to Kieu’s Vietnamese heritage, where red symbolizes good luck and the promise of a rosy future. Talk about an inspired color palette!
Make a large venue like Summerour Studio feel more intimate by hanging objects from the ceiling like these traditional red lanterns and parasols. A clever way to incorporate color scheme and theme, while adding plenty of visual interest.
Simple gold accents like these teapots, delicate butterfly cutouts or chivari chairs pair nicely with a strong accent color like John and Kieu’s lucky red! Another bold standout? The couple’s signature cocktail “Lit Lantern,” served through a four foot tall ice sculpture!
As a regional nod to their wedding locale, Kieu and John gave out jars of Georgia based spreads in flavors like peach butter with honey and pumpkin butter as favors. Each jar had a tag reading: “Spread the Love with Kieu and John.”
