Lauren, a talented Chicago interior designer, was attending the opening of a new restaurant with friends when she met Marc for the first time. It was a surprise set-up that went very well. The only catch was that Marc’s business was based in Atlanta. The distance was a challenge, but for the next ten months, they made it work. It wasn’t long before they fell in love and began to express their deep feelings for each other. On a Sunday morning while visiting Chicago, Marc woke Lauren and asked if he could bring her a coffee. Groggy, she unenthusiastically agreed. When he arrived at her apartment, he got down on one knee and proposed. Fully awake, Lauren said “yes!” While Lauren was ecstatic to be getting married, she admitted that planning a wedding in Atlanta, a city she wasn’t familiar with at the time, wasn’t easy. “At times I felt like I was planning a destination wedding,” she said. “Then I met Harrison from the St. Regis, A Luxury Hotel and Wedding and Event Venue in Atlanta, and I knew that was the place.” Lauren and Marc put their wedding in the capable hands of Christina Zubowicz of Magnolia Events & Planning. She helped them navigate the process, and things came together nicely. Lauren and Marc wanted a French inspired affair with a chic element throughout. Both are fans of French architecture as well as a modern aesthetic, so for the ceremony, they envisioned more of an ethereal romantic mood. The focal point of the ceremony was the chuppah with thousands of orchids wrapped around branches and illuminated with hundreds of candles. A single lantern lit with a bright candle, a symbol of Lauren’s dad who had recently passed away, hung over their heads. As a wedding day surprise for Marc, Lauren inscribed his ring with the words of affection she always said to him, “You are my heart.” Little did she know, he had done the same. Inside her band were the words he always said to her, “You are my life.” Images by LaCour.
