Many girls often daydream about how they will meet their future husbands. Will it be at school? A party? Through an online dating site? Bumping into him while buying bread at the grocery store? And out of all the endless possibilities, Ashley met future husband, Alex, in one of the most unique ways of all — at another wedding. Yes, Ashley and Alex were both in the same wedding in May of 2011, paired to walk together during the ceremony, and the two of them got along so well that they spent the entire reception together! A little over a year later, it was time to begin planning their own December nuptials at Atlanta wedding venue Summerour Studio! To bring in the magic of the season without being too overly Christmasy, lots of metallics and neutral pastels were used in the decoration for the classic affair. Following the evening ceremony, officiated by the groom’s father, all made their way to the reception to dine and dance the night away to the energetic sound of Drivetrain! Rich with soft flowers, gold, and candlelight, images of this enchanting occasion are brought to you by Atlanta wedding photographers Willett Photography!
Tell us about your wedding gown and what your wedding party wore.
I wore a Romona Keveza gown that I found at Bridals by Lori. I always thought my dress would be strapless, but I even surprised myself! My bridesmaids wore strapless floor length gowns from Bridals by Lori. The groom and groomsmen wore simple black tuxedos from Men’s Wearhouse.
What was the most memorable moment?
Our first look. We originally did not even want to do a first look, but Caroline and Gregg convinced us to do it. Plus, with a 6 pm ceremony in December, it was our only opportunity to get daylight photos together. Those moments of seeing each other for the first time were my absolute favorite. They calmed me before the ceremony and allowed us to have sweet moments alone before the night began.
What were your playful twists that made the event unique?
Alex and I wrote our own vows together while we were engaged. They mirrored each other’s and I’m so glad we added this special touch. Alex’s dad also officiated the ceremony, which was so special to us!
Was there a specific theme or style? What inspired it?
We wanted there to be a classic feel with Southern charm at the wedding. I’m definitely a city girl, so I loved having a Midtown venue with the skyline as the backdrop. Since it was scheduled for December, I wanted to avoid any sort of holiday themes or colors! I would meet with vendors and say, “No red or green, no winter wonderland!” Instead, I incorporated a soft neutral color palette with lots of metallics to bring in the season.
If there was one thing you could change, what would it be?
I would have hired a videographer! I wish I could watch a highlight reel of that night – the pictures are AMAZING but a video would capture even more.
