So, first thing you should know about this couple is that they got engaged in Napa. In a hot air balloon. Not that I’m jealous or anything… I just say that because with a proposal like that you know the wedding is going to be fabulous. Turns out we’re right. Atlanta wedding photographer, Scobey Photography captured the traditional ceremony and city- park-meets-classic-ballroom reception held in the heart of Atlanta at Park Tavern in Piedmont Park. And between the romantic lighting, handsome couple, and what appears to be rockin’ party, Julia and Kyle have lived up to the Napa hype. Take a look for yourself…
Can you give us an overview of the event? Kyle and I both grew up in the Atlanta area so we wanted to really capture some of the unique pieces of Atlanta in our wedding day. We wanted a traditional wedding and knew we wanted to get married in our church but wanted to have a fantastic and fun reception. This is how we came to choose the church (Northside United Methodist) and the reception location
Tell us about the food and desserts. The food was provided by Park Tavern. The cakes were done by Mark Lotti of Classic Cheese Cakes and Cakes. He did a wonderful job on both cakes but we LOVED the grooms cake. We really wanted to have cheesecake as an option so he provided extra slices. We really enjoyed that the guests had options for various foods.
Was there a specific theme or style? Kyle and I got engaged in Napa and truly have a passion for wine. Therefore, we wanted to bring a little piece of Napa into our wedding. We tried to incorporate wine touches throughout without making the wedding too theme heavy.
Tell us how you met! We met through friends when Kyle was a freshman in college and I was a junior in high school. Our friends wanted to date each other and brought us along to keep them company. We dated for about a year then were friends throughout college. After college we reconnected and got engaged a year and a half later.
What were the playful twists that made your event unique? We created an activity book for the kids’ tables to keep them occupied. Guest also had the option of being inside the tent or outside enjoying the perfect weather. We also used wine bottles as table markers that guests could take home after.
Tell us about the proposal! Kyle proposed in Napa, CA while we were on a summer vacation. We had spent 4 days in San Francisco and then went to Napa. During our first full day there we had a hot air balloon ride and winery tour scheduled. Kyle was acting very weird in the morning before the hot air balloon ride. As we reached the top of the tree line he was standing behind me and whispered in my ear “I want to ask you something…” I spun around so fast saying “Yes, Yes, YES!” that he barely could get the words out to actually ask! It was a perfect day and the perfect way to start our life together.
Did you DIY any of the details? Kyle and I cut each of the corks that held the place cards. We also purchased the wine labels and wine bottles and soaked off the original labels and placed our own. We also created the wine cork hurricanes by placing a small hurricane inside of a large one and corks in-between the two.
What were the honeymoon plans? We honeymooned in Italy for 2 weeks, sightseeing in Rome, Florence, Venice, and Como.
