With the 4th of July right around the corner, this lakeside, military wedding seemed to be more than fit for sharing with you today! Keep an eye out for thoughtful details like a popcorn bar, moss covered monograms and delicate candles. La Fete Weddings and Events, a Santa Barbara wedding planning service coordinated this stunning wedding to perfection. Atlanta, GA wedding photographer Brenda Upton Photography did a beautiful job capturing this sweet day. Enjoy!
Can you give us an overview of the event? Our wedding took place at hotel wedding venue Lake Lanier Island Resort in Buford Georgia, on a gorgeous spring evening. The ceremony was held at the water’s edge with beautiful views of Lake Lanier and the 18th fairway of the PineIsle Golf Course as the back drop. Our reception was under the hilltop pavilion which looked down at the ceremony site and miles of open water in the background.
Was there a specific theme or style? We didn’t have a specific theme or style for our wedding. We wanted our wedding to be a elegant yet fun event, filled with all our friends and family. Our wedding was an elegant formal yet fun event filled with our friends and family
What inspired the theme or style? We wanted to include each of our personalities in the details so that our wedding truly reflect each of us. Being that Andrew is an Officer in the Marine Corp and would be wearing his dress blues also played a role in the color scheme for the wedding.
What were your playful twists that make the event unique? Some of my favorite twists that made our wedding unique would be the acoustic guitar player, cigar rollers, and the popcorn/candy station. We had an acoustic guitar player for our ceremony and cocktail hour. He gave the event a fun vibe right from the start. The cigar rollers which was a surprise/gift for Andrew from Ricky Price, (Mother of the Brides Husband), was so entertaining. The guest loved watching the two men hand roll the cigars while the wedding party finished up pictures after the ceremony. The guested enjoyed the cigar’s throughout the cocktail hour and reception. The Popcorn & candy station was a mix of our favorites. We had four unique flavors of popcorn including, jalapeno cheddar, ranch, butter, and key lime pie which is Andrew favorite snack. We also have three of Ashley’s favorite candies which included, M&M’s, Jelly belly’s, and Raisinets.
What was the most memorable moment? The most memorable moment for me was after the ceremony when we made our entrance into the the reception where we were introduced for the first time as Ashely & Andrew Manaois. It was so exciting to see all of our friends and family that were their to supports us and how happy everyone for us.
Tell us about the food and desserts! : We had four station setup around the pavilion to prevent long lines for our guested to wait in to receive their food. The guest were served their choice of prime rib or roasted turkey along with a mash potato bar with all the tops the could help themselves to. Also available at the stations were their choice of Hors d’Oeuvres and display platters.
For dessert we had a three tiered wedding cake. The cake was layers of yellow cake with a raspberry white chocolate filling on the bottom tier and a lemon filling on the top two tiers. The outside of the cake was covered in a butter cream frosting. We also had a grooms cake with of course was covers in camo colored fondant with the Marine Corps emblem on the top. The grooms cake was layers of carrot cake with a cream cheese frosting. (Andrew’s favorite)
Tell us how you met! We met at college in our Biology class. Andrew came in late the first day of class and that is when i noticed him. He took the empty seat a few rows in the front and introduced himself to me after class. The next day of class he was on time and sat right next to me. Our professor instructed us that our lab partner for the semester would be the person seated next to us. Andrew and I were lab partners for the semester and became great friends before we started dating the following summer.
Now for the proposal…details!: We got engaged October 12, 2009. Andrew & I were moving to California the following week for his first duty station with the Marie Corps. He surprised me with what he called a “stay-cation” so I could relax before our big move. We went to Chateau Elan Winery for the night. He had setup a wine tasting during the day and then he made reservations at the restaurant for dinner. I had no idea anything was going on until we were on our way to dinner. After we left the room Andrew told me to wait for him at the elevator because he had forgotten his jacket. A few minutes later he showed up at the elevator but he still didn’t have his jacket. I asked him about his jacket and he said he forgot it again and went back to the room to get it a second time. Later he told me he forgotten the ring and had to make up a reason to go back to the room and then he forgot the reason he gave me. Andrew proposed after a perfect dinner and surprised me with the most gorgeous ring!
Tell us about your wedding gown and what your wedding party wore: I wore a long Ivory embroidered Lazaro dress. The dress was strapless with a slight sweetheart neck line and a fit-and-flare skirt. My bridesmaids wore a long navy taffeta dress. The dress had a v-neck with draped dropped waist bodice and trumpet skirt. Andrew wear his Marine Corps dress Blues. The groomsmen wear black tux with navy vest and tie.
What was the best wedding advice you received? The best advice i received was to enjoy the day! I took a moment during the reception to take a mental picture for myself to always remember. The day goes by so fast and you really need a moment to take it all in.
What were the honeymoon plans? We went to the Sandals resort in St. Lucia for a week. We had a great time relaxing and enjoy each other.
