We have the privilege of sharing photographer’s work on the site daily, but it’s not every day that we get to feature the actual party (in this case, a wedding) of one of those photographers. I’m happy to say though that today is different, as we’re able to share with you all of the fun, sweet details from Melissa Prosser’s winter nuptials. Themed around the Wizard of Oz, Melissa and Bobby’s big day is chock full of personality at the historic wedding venue King Plow Arts Center in Atlanta, GA! Don’t miss the entire gallery from Atlanta, GA wedding photographers Project Duo!
Can you give us an overview of the event? Our wedding was an elegant formal yet fun event filled with our friends and family.
Was there a specific theme or style? YES! Wizard of Oz! I wanted to pay homage to my all time favorite movie, and make it a unique day inspired by it.
What inspired the theme or style? Every since I was a little girl I have been in love with the movie the Wizard of Oz. There is this priceless photo of me at about 7 in the Smithsonian museum grinning from ear to ear standing by the ruby slippers. To this day, I am still in love with the movie, and even have the red shoes tattooed on my foot!
What were your playful twists that made the event unique? We really wanted the wedding to be more of a “nod” to the Wizard verses literally having flying monkeys hanging from the ceiling. I wore actual replicas of the ruby slippers for my shoes, we used tin oil cans to hold our flowers on the round tables at the reception, my bouquet was made of flowers that resemble poppies, we had a yellow aisle runner for the ceremony, rainbows of ribbon on the ends of the tables, and an actual tornado on our invitation! and more! Paper Parfait did an incredible job incorporating our tornado logo into all the wedding day paper items. It really set the tone for everything.
What was the most memorable moment? Man. That is so hard! There were many memorable moments, but they all went by so fast! Seeing Bobby all jazzed up in his white dinner jacket as I came down the aisle was a top, but also seeing the cake that my dad made me teared me up as well. There are countless more. I cried all day!
Tell us about the food and dessrts! THE FOOD! Oh my. Being that I am a wedding photographer and have been in the Atlanta area for 6 years, I have tried all sorts of wedding food. Some good, some bad. I chose the BEST I have ever had, which is Bold American. They were the first people I contacted and knew that no mater what they cost I would use them! They did not disappoint. We did a seated dinner with a choice of a chicken pancetta cutlet or beef short ribs. They both were delectable. The meal started with an amazing bowl of butternut squash soup that was to die for!
What kind of energy did your entertainment give? Pulse DJ services did a fantastic job playing all the music that we love! The crowd had a fantastic time and Chris did a great job keeping the energy going strong.
If there was one thing you could change, what would it be? To try to take it all in more. The day went by so fast that it was really hard to remember it all at once. It all has come back in bits and pieces, but I wish that it had went by slower.
Tell us how you met! Bobby and I met on e-harmony. I was on the site for only 2 and a half weeks, and we exchanged all of their forms of communication in only 4 hours! A few days later we spoke on the phone, then went on our first date. It was the best date I ever had. It was rather short, but the best communication I had ever had with a man. We had to end the night sooner rather than later because Roswell shuts down earlier than downtown Atlanta, and I was having surgery the next day. Bobby checked in on me during my surgery and we connected and went out again a week later. After that, we were inseparable!
Now for the proposal…details! We were only dating four months before Bobby asked me to marry him. I had yet to meet his parents since they lived in Florida, so we scheduled a trip around my shooting schedule and went to visit his family in Kissimmee. I have always been a HUGE Disneyworld fan, so we went to the Magic Kingdom while we were in town. As soon as we got to the park he started telling me all of these super sweet things, and we kept walking around the park and he was still talking to me about our future, how much he loved me, etc. We went on our favorite ride (Pirates of the Carribbean) and towards the end of the ride he whispered to me will you marry me? I said I would marry you tomorrow if I could, thinking it was more of a hypothetical question, but he actually had a ring box in his lap! I wasn’t really understanding what was going on, so he said Melissa, look down! At that point, it all hit me and I said are you serious? I of course said yes! My hands were so swollen the ring barely fit. We started calling all of our family while in line to ride Peter Pan. As soon as we got on the ride reality started to hit, and I just started bawling my eyes out. I don’t remember much of that flight of Peter Pan!
We want to know all about the details, was is big and traditional or small and intimate? Well, I wanted to originally keep it to about 75 guests, but it quickly grew to about 120 (including our vendors). We wanted the wedding to really be an event. The room was glowing in an amber light with beautiful flowers hanging from the ceiling. Nikki from Ciao Bella knocked our design out of the park. She made our ceremony and reception look perfect. She even surprised me with a gift of the yellow aisle runner! The ceremony was a traditional Christian ceremony, but Bobby and I wrote our own vows. My dad sang the lords prayer and we passed our wedding bands amongst our guests so they could say well wishes or give a prayer over the rings as they came by. Our reception had all the usual fun traditional dances, but we had a beautiful seated dinner that was full of warmth for the winter months. After dinner, we cut the beautiful cake my father prepared for us, and danced into the evening!
What were the honeymoon plans? We went to Tulum Mexico for our honeymoon. We chose Dreams Tulum as our resort. It was a beautiful all inclusive right on the beach about 1.5 hours south of Cancun. I highly recommend it!
