A classic and timeless wedding. I believe it is what every bride ultimately strives for. To be able to look back at her wedding through the years and know that no matter what decade it is or what currently is in style, her event transcends it all. That is what I am drawn to the most, the one where you can’t tell when the wedding took place. Lindsey and Patrick’s celebration at Atlanta wedding venue The Trolley Barn screams, in a dignified manner of course, elegance and grace. It doesn’t hurt that this couple has some serious style. Lindsey wore an ethereal Jenny Packham gown while Patrick, and his groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos each adorned with different and non-traditional boutonnieres. And going slightly against the norm, Lindsey had her bridesmaids pick out their own dresses, only asking for a pinkish hue, and chunky necklaces providing a unique cohesiveness to the wedding party. See this ageless affair come to life with photos by Atlanta wedding photographer Sharon Theresa Wheaton Photography.
Tell us how you met. Was it love at first sight, blind date, friends forever?
Patrick: First met Lindsey in the Spring of 2009 at our mutual friend’s 80’s themed birthday party (thanks Ashley!). It was divine intervention that I even went. I was taking the GMAT test the next day, and I desperately needed to study and sleep. The only reason I decided to go was that I figured this would be the only time I’d get to wear my American Gladiators leotard in a socially acceptable setting (nothing is more 80’s than Nitro from the American Gladiators). Though in hindsight going out to a rowdy party the night before a big test was not a great idea, it turned out it was the best decision I ever made. The moment I first saw Lindsey has always stood out in my mind. She was hard to miss dressed in what I can only describe as “MC Hammer Pants” and a midriff white tank top. We did not talk much that night, but we did manage to take a picture together that I can only hope and pray will one day be proudly displayed at our 50th wedding anniversary party.
Life had a way of keeping us from dating for another year or two, but whenever we’d happen to see each other, it was obvious we were a match. I let it be known among my friends that I was smitten and as soon as humanly possible, I was going to take her out. I knew I’d just have to wait it out!
Once I finally managed to get her on a first date, I knew she was something special. From that first date, I knew deep down that Lindsey was the one for me, and since then, we’ve been absolutely inseparable. She truly has been a blessing and has really brought out the best of me.
After falling in love in every possible way and over and over again, I realized I was eager to start that next chapter of our life together. So after two years of getting to know each other and falling more and more in love, I asked Lindsey to marry me on the evening on June 28th, 2012.
Lindsey: Patrick and I crossed paths a few times before we had our first date. I’ll never forget his blue unitard the night of our friend’s party. I should’ve known that was just a glimpse into the crazy outfits that Patrick would bust out! I knew from the day I met him that our friendship would consist of fun times and continual conversation.
He asked me on our first date the day after his birthday, and when he told me we were going to the drive in off Moreland, I was beyond excited!! From that night on, we were inseparable. At that point in my life, I did not know what I wanted for the future, but I was thrilled to be spending my days with Patrick. His jovial demeanor and adventurous outlook on life really drew me in. He is everything I never knew I wanted in a partner!! He is chivalrous, hilarious, considerate and a complete guy’s guy. And of course he’s nice to look at…bonus!
I was apprehensive to bring Patrick home to meet my family (much to my mom’s dismay haha) as I knew if they loved him, this would be it for me!! I had completely fallen for him and my families stamp of approval was a must. My family obviously adored Patrick and he has blended right in.
I knew I wanted to marry Patrick, but did not know what the days ahead would hold! We had discussed plans for our future but I was thinking things wouldn’t happen for another year or so! That being said, when Patrick planned the whole proposal in the North Georgia Mountains, I was completely (and happily) caught off guard. He asked me to marry him the night of June 28th, and it is the happiest day of my life to date. I can’t wait to marry my man and begin on our new journey together.
Now for the proposal…details!

Can you give us an overview of the event?
The service was held at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Midtown Atlanta. The reception was held at The Trolley Barn in Inman Park. Food was catered by Fox Brothers BBQ and the band was Band X. All of the decorations for the reception were hand made/bought my Lindsey and family and ALL of the decorations were put in place by the Groomsman on the day of the wedding.
Was there a specific theme or style? What inspired it?
Vintage. Lindsey loves antiques and handmade crafts.
Did you DIY any of the details?
ALL OF THEM! All of the decorations for the reception were hand made/bought my Lindsey and family and ALL of the decorations were put in place by the Groomsman on the day of the wedding. We also received flowers from a local shop – Findlay Rowe Designs – who bent over backwards to work within our budget! They did an amazing job!
What were your playful twists that made the event unique?
Beer served out of a canoe. The canoe made it easy for everyone to get a drink with no lines and gave the event a relaxed “back yard BBQ” feel.
Tell us about the food and desserts.
BBQ buffet from Fox Brothers BBQ. Several wedding cakes of different flavors. Again, this gave the event a relaxed feel. We wanted everyone to feel like family!
What kind of energy did your entertainment give the event?
Amazing. They absolutely rocked it! We got fined for a noise code violation… enough said!
