March has finally arrived, and spring is just around the corner! Glorious sunshine, bright flowers, the melody of birds chirping . . . Doesn’t the thought of it just glue a smile on your face? No season captures the joy of young love quite like springtime, so when destination wedding photographer Devon Donnahoo desired to plan a wedding styled shoot, she looked to her favorite season for inspiration and, after discovering beautiful bird cages while on a shopping trip, decided on the theme of “Love Birds”! It all took place at Jacksonville wedding venue Walter Jones Historical Park, the property bursting with old-fashioned charm from the plantation style house to the trees clothed in Spanish moss. Focused on a color scheme of aqua, black, and white, the scene was a pure delight to behold. Strands of pearls, mason jars, and bird cage centerpieces gave a smidgen of vintage romance to the otherwise modern setup of the main table. A shabby-chic white dresser stood nearby displaying a lovely cake, mini-bottles of wine, and bird seed with which to “shower the love birds” at their departure. The groom looked dashing in his dark suit and aqua tie, but it was the bride who stole the show with her ruffled skirt, bold necklace, teal heels and — what else?! — classy birdcage veil. ITEMS TO INCORPORATE
I think it is always fun to incorporate a few DIY projects into your wedding, to give it a personal touch and something for you to be proud of. I painted the love birds signs on the back of the chairs and the “Mr & Mrs.” champagne glasses.
A combination of bold, tropical flowers were used for the bride’s bouquet which gave a nice pop of color and contrast. We used an aqua ribbon tied around the bottom of the bouquet and a striped ribbon around the boutonniere.
