Sleek, elegant, and sophisticated, this 007 & Mission Impossible themed gender reveal party was unlike any we’ve ever seen! Mom-to-be Timeesha of Tim Duncan Events first announced the event by sending all the desired guests a dynamic video (packed with clips from action films!) which told them about their upcoming roles as secret agents. The next day “Top Secret Envelopes” were received in the mail with personalized passports. The evening of the celebration arrived, and all in attendance, dressed in their classiest garb, were fingerprinted and given IDs before setting foot in the private residence. Games were enjoyed before dinner was served in the dining room, a black and white chevron table runner, floral arrangements of blood red flowers, and golden utensils and candlelight lending just the right air of luxury to the meal. Following desserts, a scavenger hunt ensued providing clues as to the baby’s gender before the exciting truth was revealed in the event’s grand finale. Was there a specific theme or style?
When my husband I learned we were pregnant with our 2nd child, one thing I knew for sure is that I wanted to have a gender reveal party, but I knew I didn’t want to have the typical pink and blue theme. I had to do something out of the box which I knew would be expected of me from my family and closest friends. I decided on a Mission Impossible /007 theme where the guests would act as secret agents and their mission would be to solve the gender of the baby. The colors chosen were black, red, gold and white and guests had to arrive in Black Tie attire. I loved that my guests fully embraced the theme, with some arriving in ballgowns, tuxedos, and even as sexy vixen secret agents in leather pants!
What were your playful twists that made the event unique?
When guests arrived, they had to sign in at the secret agent booth where they received secret agent ID cards and had to get their fingerprints stamped in order to proceed inside the event. We played a few games prior to dinner, then after dinner was served, I led them to another room (the library) where I played a video of the baby (a sonogram picture) and had a baby’s voice (mine’s on autotune) giving them instructions on how to start the scavenger hunt.
Tell us about the food and desserts.
We had a dessert bar that included rock candy sticks, red velvet shooters, gold cake pops, chocolate cupcakes with red and white frosting, and red gumballs. For dinner, we served Heirloom Salad (one of my specialties), Chicken Dijonnaise, Garlic and Herb Whipped Mashed Potatoes, and Sauteed Garlic Green Beans.
Did you DIY any of the details?
As an Event Planner, I am always looking for DIY things to do! However, because I am pregnant, and actually on bedrest, I couldn’t DIY as much as I would have wanted. I created all of the videos myself. My Branding Company, Luxe Branding Co. created all the stationery for the event, and my great friend and fabulous floral designer, Ashlee Gadson provided the floral decor for the event and assisted me with the event decor.
What kind of energy did your entertainment give the event?
I think because we chose to include our guests as part of the entertainment (secret agents), everyone was charged and excited about the event from the beginning. Guests had a job to complete, so they felt apart of something, not just guests invited to watch us have fun. Everyone arrived with anticipation not only to see what was next for the event and to play out their roles (which they did superbly), but of course to find out the gender of our unborn baby, so the excitement levels were high to say the least. Using a scavenger hunt to find the gender just intensified everyone’s excitement (and nerves!)
What was the most memorable moment?
The most memorable moment of the event was the actual reveal of the gender. We had built up so much anticipation for that moment, and when it came time to open the reveal box, my husband and I couldn’t get our nerves in check! The family did a countdown to open the box and when we saw the blue balloons fly out, we were overjoyed. The moment I had been waiting for had finally arrived. It was that moment that I felt the most connected with my unborn son which was such an amazing feeling.
