Kristen is one of the sweetest brides we’ve ever (virtually!) met. We are so excited to share her + Mike’s Hilton Doubletree Esplanade Lakes ‘I dos’– there were so many special details. The bride says, “We had a balloon release (in memory of those who could not be there with us that day), a memory tree, a flip flop basket for our dancing guests, a cupcake buffet and so much more!”

With “Enchanted” as the couple’s wedding theme, there were flowers and tree accents all over the place. From tree slabs for centerpieces, tree picture holders, tree candle holders and lanterns, the angelic vibe surrounded their big day. Kristen says, “Most importantly, our reception room was surrounded by a beautiful lake and forest!” Mint is also the bride’s favorite color, so there was no second guessing the trendy color.
~ Kristen’s details ~
Something borrowed: Her grandma’s (mom side) crocheted handkerchief
Something old: Pearl necklace from great aunt given by her grandma (dad’s side)
Something blue: Silver bobby pin with blue flower passed among engaged friends // Blue and pink ties on her dress from the woman who altered her dress. Kristen says “The woman who altered my dress says she puts ribbons and colors for the number of boys and girls she thinks the bride will have (and claims that she has been right! I had four ribbons!”
“I had a beautiful locket on my bouquet with a picture of my brother Tommy on it. This was a very special way of carrying him with me throughout my special day.” ~ Kristen
In addition to her bridesmaids in teal above, Kristen included her cousins in the couple’s wedding as well. “I created another group,” she says. “I named this group my “Entourage”! They wore short coral dresses and helped with the running of the wedding (passing out balloons and pamphlets, etc.)”
Prior to their wedding, the couple asked their guests to fill out a song request card. The dance floor was packed all night!
Putting a spin on tradition, Kristen + Mike had a ‘kissing menu’ where guests were required to do random crazy things in order for the bride & groom to kiss. This consisted of a huge wedding wide Conga Line, marriage advice (“The wife is always right”) and have their friends sing karaoke love songs.
From the bride ~
“My favorite part of our wedding was walking into our reception! We had a grand entrance for our huge bridal party where each group had a special 30 second introduction song. The best feeling in the world was when they called us “Mr & Mrs” and the Chicago Blackhawks song played over the speakers. Seeing everyone and hearing “Mr & Mrs” was the moment it officially clicked, “We are really married!”
~Advice from the couple ~
“Think about what aspects of the wedding are important to you. It is your wedding, so don’t be afraid to bring in your own personalities and do things that are out of the box!”
