sat danced there
We just got home from a night of margaritas and tacos from a nearby delicious Mexican restaurant. My bedroom looked as though a tornado had just
danced whipped through. I was in the middle of a packing disaster. Dane and I were throwing clothes in bags and putting shoes in boxes. We were leaving for Chicago the next morning and the clock was ticking.
I was wearing my cleaning shorts…you know, the ones you’ve had since you were 12 but you can’t get rid of them because they’re so stinkin comfy. They have a perfect balance of stretched out, faded and broken in. My hair was on top of my head in my favorite little bun. I was wearing the same t-shirt I had been in all day…I’m pretty sure I spilled salsa on it just a little while earlier.
My Southern Gent was dressed to impress. Always looking dapper. He was in a plaid button down with the sleeves rolled up. Complimented perfectly with his khaki shorts.
We were blaring country music as we danced around the room like two little kids. This is a regular occurrence for us. We met at a concert because of our love of music, so music is big part of our lives.
I was mid dance move and he grabbed my hand… “stop” he said. I was shocked thinking (Oh! Don’t like my dancing, huh! Don’t care! I’ll dance anyway!) Aside from my immediate internal reaction…He looked my in the eyes and said, “I am crazy about you, I’m crazy about us.” “She’s my kind of rain” by Tim McGraw was playing in the background. (not coincidence) -> link at bottom to set the mood 😉
He went down on his knee.
I could see the nerves in his red face and nervous smile. He was almost shaking reaching in his pocket. “Will you marry me?” was all he was able to get out. I couldn’t breath. You know when you are gasping for air and nothing seems to enter your lungs? Yeah, that was me. My hands were up to my mouth in shock. I now FULLY understand why that is the typical reaction upon proposal…YOU CAN’T BREATH!! I didn’t even look at the ring because I was too busy looking into the eyes of my future husband and soaking in the moment together. I jumped on him and we fell to the floor, dying laughing.
After I finally caught my breath, he put the ring on me and chills overcame my body. I thought, (This is actually happening. Oh my gosh, this just happened.) I didn’t know what to do next. Do I call my mom, do I go tell my best friends, do I call my brother,
do I upload to social media. I did what any overly excited girl would do… run and attack your best friend. I sprinted into my roommates room and showed her the ring, “YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!” (She knew all along) The tears started flowing and they didn’t stop…
This was perfect for me. Nothing fancy and I was completely surprised (let me tell you, Im a hard one to surprise). We soaked in the moment and began calling all our friends and family.
Needless to say, I didn’t finish packing until the next morning.
All for now,
Soon to be Mrs. Danielle Daniels
