I can’t wait to watch the Oscars on Sunday. Actually, I can’t wait to watch the Red Carpet pre-show to see what everyone is wearing! It’s also another opportunity to gather friends together and host a viewing party. I’ve put together a few ideas that combine the glamour of the night with a little bit of whimsy.
Begin by sending out invitations or hand delivering them. We found these free downloads by Twig & Thistle which also include a printable voting ballot for your guests to check off who they think will win each of the main categories. You can also invite guests to “dress to impress” for their red carpet moment.
If you plan to serve dinner, set the table with a black and white color scheme and add bow ties to decorate the plates. This will add an unexpected and whimsical element. To go a step further, place a red runner down the center of the table to emulate the red carpet. A pretty centerpiece of red or white roses is all you need to finish the look.
Set up a dessert table with some of these fun ideas: wrap champagne flutes with paper cut-outs shaped like bowties, make chocolates shaped like jewels by using special silicone molds, serve color coordinated cupcakes, parfaits, and cookies in keeping with the theme.
Let your guests play up to the paparazzi by setting up a photo booth area and providing props for them to have fun with. All you need to do is hang a curtain for the backdrop and start clicking.
Send each guest home with their own Oscar in the form of a cookie. Wrap it in cellophane and place it in a plastic popcorn container along with a package of microwave popcorn, and a small frame to hold their photo from the night.
And the winner is….You, when you host your own Oscars viewing party with these ideas. Cheers!
