good morning sunshines!
yes, i realize it’s saturday! this post was supposed to be written yesterday, but life got in the way. forgive me. anywhoozle.
my friday posts, for the most part, will be dedicated to health and fitness. don’t worry; i’m not going to harp on you. i’m not going to preach. if i did, i’d be a hypocrite. i enjoy life way too much to be a health nut. but i’m getting married. and i’m probably a little vain. my fiancé asked me to marry him looking how i do today, so i don’t want to completely transform myself for the wedding. i don’t want to look back at pictures and remember the gym-crazed, starvation-stricken few months leading up to the wedding, instead of the happiest day of my life. i want to look like ME at my wedding, but i want to look like the best, most healthy version of myself – toned arms and back, glowy skin, and no hint of double chin. (okay, i’m probably more than a little vain.) and in order for all of that to happen, health and fitness are going to have to play a role in my every day life. and so was born health and fitness friday – a series of fitness tips, recipes, workouts, and whatever else you guys want to hear about!
breakfast. guys. eat breakfast. i honestly hate breakfast. it’s by far my least favorite meal of the day, and for a while, i skipped it because it was, in my naïve mind, a waste of calories. i would drink my coffee in the morning, and then go straight to lunch around noon, until a nutritionist convinced me that this was actually metabolic suicide. coffee puts your metabolism on hyperspeed for a short amount of time. awesome, huh?! unfortunately not. after the burst of speed, it will plummet to a rate lower than what it was when you first woke up. not cool. it probably sounds like i’m anti-coffee, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. without my morning coffee, i turn into an absolute monster. i LOVE coffee. but with coffee should come food. breakfast will take that super speed metabolism and normalize it, so that the rate settles somewhere between hyperspeed and wake-up speed, leaving it at that elevated rate until about lunchtime. “i’m not a coffee drinker…i’m off the hook for breakfast!” nope. sorry. long story short, no breakfast=no metabolism until lunch. unless you eat something totally outlandish for breakfast, the amount of caloric burn resulting from an increased metabolism will outweigh the calories consumed at breakfast.
what should i eat for breakfast? as i’m already starting to drone on, we’ll get into this another day, but in three words – protein, carbs, fat.
enjoy the beautiful weekend, lovies! go eat some breakfast!
