A town where history and politics coexist with nature and the arts, where Seminoles reign and where Rattlers aren’t afraid to strike, the capital of Florida is a diverse cultural center with many hidden gems. Located in the panhandle, Tallahassee isn’t just a hub for college students, athletes and politicians. With miles of historic wildlife and gardens, parks, and lakes, Tallahassee also provides stunning settings for weddings.
Considered by many as a “Southern Georgia” town, the weather here is a bit different than in other Florida cities. The summers are long and sticky and the winters are short but brutal. Snow, while uncommon, isn’t a foreign concept, so keep the season in mind when picking a venue! We’ve decided to help you out with some pros and cons for each.
Pros: Days are long and the sun stays out late! As a college town, Tallahassee is pretty empty during these summer months (compared to its usual craziness) so it can be pretty peaceful during this time.
Cons: The city gets about 60 inches of rain a year, and a good portion of that rain is during the months of June, July, and August.
Pros: April is typically our driest month, and the azaleas are blooming!
Cons: Not only is it allergy season, but you have to work around multiple holidays and breaks including Easter, spring break, and graduation.
Pros: Football season! If you’re a die hard football fan, having your wedding in the fall means you can incorporate your team into your special day.
Cons: Football season. Sports fans don’t care if your wedding day overlaps with a big game. Streets are packed to capacity, tents cover every available space and the party rages on.
Pros: Hot cocoa bars, s’mores, and endless opportunities for a winter wonderland!
Cons: Temperatures can drop below 30 degrees in Tallahassee, making an outdoor wedding a challenge.
After picking a date, the next step should be picking a venue. Take a look at some of our favorites, listed below.
Before trying on the gowns or tasting hundreds of rich cake flavors, one of the most important first steps you must take when planning a wedding is picking a location. What does your dream wedding look like? Is it traditional or modern? Intimate or big? Is it an outdoors wedding? Or a chic ballroom wedding? There are tons of different types of venues located all around Tallahassee that cater to every need.
1. The Shiloh Farm Chapel and Barn | Maximum capacity: varies by venue
The Shiloh Farm Chapel and Barn, a Tallahassee wedding venue, is a charming setting “where town & country meet.” With more than 65 acres of greenery including open fields and impressive oak trees, outdoor weddings are a common occurrence here.
