Just a few weeks ago, I professed my love of polka dots, but now I’m loving another fun pattern–big, bold, punchy stripes! I love the undeniably preppy, nautical vibe they add to a wedding (or event!), and there are so many ways to incorporate them. From subtle striped details in your style choices, to show stopping linens, here are a few of my favorite ideas.
Table linens are a great way to use stripes that will really make an impact. How many weddings have you been to with striped linens? Case in point! They’re so unique and can bring the whole look of your reception up a notch. If linens that are fully striped are a bit overwhelming to you, do what this bride and groom did and layer a striped table runner over a solid colored tablecloth. Picture via Shannon Lee Images.
This is perfect for people who don’t necessarily want stripes taking a starring role in their event, but still want to have fun with some of their linens. I love the idea of using traditional linens on the main tables, but then punching up your accent tables with stripes. Some examples are the dessert table (as seen here) or cake table, guest book table, or the sweetheart table. They would be a fun contrast for the tall tables during cocktail hour as well! I love fun photo booth backdrops, and this striped one is so sweet and simple. If you don’t have a conveniently striped wall available, a few ways to get a similar look include painting stripes onto a tall folding screen, or taping colored duct tape across one vertically. Hanging striped fabric, or even colored ribbons evenly spaced across a white wall, would create the desired effect too. Get creative with it! Picture via Joelle Pulido Photography.
I absolutely love this picture for a couple of reasons. 1. The stripes, of course. 2. How cute are these bridesmaids in Anne M. Cramer skirts? This brings “you can wear it again after the wedding” to a whole new level–if I got to wear this skirt as a bridesmaid, I would proceed to wear it every day. This look is perfect for a spring or summer wedding, and for that matter, it’s perfect for any kind of event. Chic, preppy, polished, and adorable! Don’t forget to let the guys get in on the fun! Striped ties are so classic that I’m sure any groom would be happy to wear one. My favorite ties are from Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, and Kiel James Patrick, all of which have tons of striped options. How cute would it be to match the ribbon on your bouquet to your groom’s tie? P.S. A striped pocket square would work too! Pictures via Aravaggio Photography and Virgil Bunao Photography.
The little details are always my favorite! Barbershop-striped straws are already a super popular detail that never gets old, and in a bow-tied mason jar, the whole thing looks oh-so-nautical. I love the coral and navy color combination too! On the right, a bride that wears fun shoes is my favorite kind of bride, and I am dying to see a bride rock these pretty little J. Crew pumps.
