I know a lot of people think of a cupcake decorating party as a little juvenile but I think it could be fun for adults too. Imagine a girls night in with your best friends staying in and decorating cupcakes. That could be fun right? I got to thinking about how you could do a cupcake decorating party for adults and while I was researching, I found lots of fun ways for kids too. So I thought why not show how to do it two ways? From “adults only” cupcakes to cupcake liner garland, here are some ways to have a super fun cupcake decorating party for yourself and for your kids.
There are so many options for cupcake invitations when I went to search on Etsy. You won’t have trouble finding a more adult type invite there. I chose for the girls night party this simple cut out cupcake invite. I love the brown background and the cute die-cut cupcakes on the front. It shows you that there is a party with cupcakes but not so juvenile. For the kid party I found this super adorable graphic invite with the pink stripes and pink cupcake-perfect for that little girl who loves everything pink. I LOVE this cupcake liner garland and I think it could double for a girls night in and a kids party. Simply string different color and patterned cupcake liners on a string and hang up all over the place. For the adult party maybe get more neutral cupcake liners or some with fun patterns like chevron or ikat. For the kids party maybe pinks and reds (or blue and green for a boy!) with polka dot patterned liners. Although pink is my favorite color so I think really girly garland would be great for the girls night in as well. (via Jenny Cookies)
For the party, I think it may be best to bake the cupcakes before hand especially for the kids party so they don’t have to wait for them to bake and you can play around with your recipe a little bit. For the adults I have found an “irish car bomb” cupcake made with chocolate, Guinness beer, and a Bailey’s irish cream frosting. Yum! For the kids keep is simple with just the classic vanilla cupcake and vanilla buttercream icing. Both sound yummy to me! (both cupcakes via Brown Eyed Baker)
You are probably thinking, “How should I set the cupcakes to decorate?” well I have come up with to great (and fun) ways! For the adults, they are prone to make less mess when decorating (well except for me, who makes a total mess in the kitchen!) but you can set up a cupcake fondue pot! Have your frosting sitting in a fondue pot, stick your cupcakes on the little sticks and simply dip them in the pot. Then after you have frosted them, keep them on the stick and dip into sprinkles or whatever toppings you might lay out! I love fondue and I love cupcakes so I think this is a great idea! For the kids, you know they are most likely going to make a mess no matter what, but by laying everything out for them it might not be as messy. Stack all your cupcakes in a cupcake holder, put all your icings in a mason jar or other fun storage (maybe a plastic cup if you just want to throw it out when finished), and have various plastic knives stuck in the jars so when they kids come up to the station its there for them to use. Also do this with the toppings, just lay out the sprinkles and other things in bowls with spoons in them and the kids can come up and decorate their masterpiece! A great thing about the cupcake decorating party, is that you send home your guests with an edible party favor. Which is always my favorite type of party favor! I am definitely ready to go make some cupcakes right about now. Maybe I’ll throw my own cupcake decorating party!
