After fifteen years of friendship and a romantic proposal at a Scottish castle, Laura and John tied the knot in May 2012. Surrounded by family and friends at The Solarium at Old Scottish Rite, their wedding was infused with sentimental details and Scottish charm—a tribute to Laura’s Scottish heritage. The day began with a touching ceremony that included live bagpipe music and Scottish love poems. One of the most special moments during the ceremony was when the officiant, Greg Wiggins, sang the beloved poem by Robert Burns, “My Love’s Like a Red, Red Rose,” to which guests began to sing along. For the reception that followed, Laura and event stylist Juli Vaughn pulled many of the wedding décor items from Laura and John’s own shelves and bookcases. The mismatched tables full of personal details created an eclectic, retro, Anthropologie-inspired look. Images by Artstar Photography.
Laura’s father walked her down the aisle as a bagpiper played “The Sky Boat Song,” a traditional Scottish song that he used to sing to Laura when she was a little girl.
Laura’s wedding ring was from her grandmother, who was not able to travel to the wedding from Scotland. The ring was the same one used when her grandparents were married in 1951.
